I disagree with what most people are saying.
In season 10 of Dimaggio, my team won 127 games.
I was losing my best player, Lew Patterson, and wanted to make a run at a title. I signed two type A FA's and gave it my all.

I am in the AL West. That year, the worst team in the AL won 51 games. The second worst team won 69. A large reason for my success was luck. 7 of my pitchers had career bests in ERA and Clarence Kraemer hit .342 (in 5 seasons, his next best avg has been .286).

The NL was similar. I lost in the DCS.
Just two years later in season 12, I led the league in wins with 106. The three teams with over 100 loses finished season 12 (2 years later) at 80-82, 98-72 (division title) and 79-83.
I will admit that there had been some stupid moves by teams in early seasons (as most leagues have) that polarized strength but especially in the AL, I think this just happened to be a rather unique season.
