OK so since Nemee left we slipped to top 15 in America.

How many cities have a world class Symphony and Opera, all 4 sports teams, a vibrant Arab and African American cultural influence and driving distance to a foreign country?

Again we are talking about a small section of the whole of the Detroit Area. There are some "Bombed out" sections of Detroit.

Downtown Detroit and the area around the Stadiums is up to par with any city. The new center Area and wayne State are alive and thriving. I live in the NW area of Warren. I am surrounded by a retail Mecca. And I am a short drive from 2 major malls, Lakeside and Sommerset.

All 4 Major sports. Top 10 Symphony. Great Opera. Can visit a foreign country in less than 1 hour.

Who else can do all that?
FWIW, Warren is a shithole...  unless you love strip malls.

I find it funny that you would reference those two areas.  Outside of the stadium itself, everything surrounding it is wretched...

And near Wayne State, where I occasionally catch shows at the Magic Stick, is a haven for shady people.  Hell, I have been accosted multiple times at the stores on Woodward.
1 Warren is no 2 in the nation for people staying there the longest. No one wants to leave warren.

2 What about the Fox Theatre, Fillmore Detroit, Hockeytown, Detroit Opera house, Gem Theatre, Elwood bar and Grill, Century Theatre, Second City...Stop getting the news about Detroit from isolated old ladies in Birmingham!

3 Detroit is a tough town. We take pride in our street people.

If you take away Drug Related deaths and family fights almost no one gets murdered in Detroit.

Most of the time I can't be bothered with your lunacy, but you're cracking me up in this thread.

I just went to a show at the Fillmore in August...  good venue but a block in either direction was horrible.

I get my news from myself.

I don't care how long people are staying in Warren.  I just spent a week there and I would rather be in ******* Ohio or Kansas (both awful) than that dump.

For real.  I usually ignore him but this is actually insane.

I like the part about a "vibrant Arab and African American community."

Compton is an awesome city too.

Let's not get too worked up about driving distance from a foreign country by the way...  it's Canada.  Plus, what it is next to is Windsor which is one of the worst parts of Canada.  Give the Seattle (one of the best places in America and a truly ethnically diverse place)/Vancouver combo over this **** any day.

And for comic relief there is always San Diego/Tijuana.
9/26/2010 9:59 AM
I been to San Diego twice this year...  roughly 1100 times better than Detroit and Tijuana is just the Mexican, slummier (redundant?) version of Windsor.  Although, I did spend a long weekend there once (TJ) and there is a hell of a lot more to there than Windsor.

Don't even try saying Toronto swamp...  I just drove it in June...  it is like 4.5 hours away.

I would rather hang out with white trash skanks in Brighton than with anyone in Detroit.

That's funny. Is swamp trying to be multicultural in his role as spokesman for Detroit?

How is Seattle Truly Ethincally Diverse and Detroit isnt.

Washington is about 80% white and Michigan is about 78% white. We both have mostly white parts of the state away from Seattle and Detroit.

What are you basing this on?
9/26/2010 7:17 PM
Well, personal experience, but the any census in the last 10 years shows Detroit (it is a city, not a state) as over 80% Black.  Meanwhile, over a third of Seattle's population is made up of a multitude of races.  Most of the Indian and Arab people no longer live in Detroit and there is virtually no Asian representation.  It is basically Blacks, and then poor white people with a few Latinos mixed in.

Also, for someone who champions the virtues of people staying put, why is Detroit losing 12% of its population every few years?
9/26/2010 9:03 PM

I always presented this as a regional discussion. Detroit area.

And the area is maintaining population, it is just moving to the suburbs.

I can remember when M-59 was the line of civilization to the north, now it is 15 miles past that.

m 59 is the line of civilization?  now its 15 miles past that?  man so you have to go 15 miles past m59 to get to a civilized part of Detroit?  For a guy that likes to bang the drum of Detroit you sure arent making me want to visit the place!  lmao... BTW I used to go to Detroit 3-4 times a week for my job, I was sh*ting in my pants everytime I had to leave my vehicle and stop at a red light in most parts of Detroit, and this was like 12 years ago when I was going there regularly.  Seems like everybody including you say that Detroit has gotten worse since that time.  I cant imagine going to Detroit now unless I was suicidal.
