4683 carrer ML at bats - 0 homers 99 speed, and no inside the park homers either.  I see where they say about 1 or 2 inside the park homers per world per season?  Anyone else question that, b/c it seems like it happens way more often than that, unless my teams just happen to get all the inside the park homers.  I've also seen some pretty slow runners hit inside the park homers, so I don't know that I completely trust them on that one.

That's what I'm trying to get at with them, I want them to look at the numbers they have available and see if the engine really does respond how they think it does.

As often as not, it doesn't. This is an example of that.

I'm pretty sure there are far more than jsut 1 or 2 ITPHRs per world per season. I would guess there's probably about 5 per team per season, maybe more. It at least seams that way. Nevertheless, a speedster with 0 power you would assume would have a drawn in outfield and at some point the outfielder would dive for a ball and miss it which would lead to an ITPHR; at least in theory. There is no way they have the same chance of hitting an ITPHR than any other player because they they would have to have at least 1 by now which we can't even seem to find. Not even in the minors with terrible fielders.

Alan,

What you are asking is possible. It would be about as common as any other type of ITPHR. One or two per world per season.
One or two per world per season? I am sure I see 10+ a season just in my ML games.

http://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=1542712   (not sure how to make it a link)

Ricky Roberts has 5155 AB's (2275 Minors, 2880 Majors) without ever hitting a home run. Roberts does have 86 extra base hits (56 2B and 30 3B)  though in this 2880 big league at bats. I see players all the time hitting inside the park home runs, in fact i think there are far too many, but they are true power hitters that aren't fast at all. My guy whose a speed demon can't even get 1; that's kind of crazy. I would think he would hit 1 ball in the gap or that a player dives and misses and he can just run. Apparently not...
So Roberts has the most!?!

Alan,

We've reviewed the code and data and have made a minor adjustment to raise the floor a little bit. This will be out in the next update. You're not going to see guys with 0 power starting to hit a bunch of homers -- you're going to see them hit one a little more frequently than they currently do.

Thanks

I think they were referring to 0 power guys, not total league ITPHR.
10/1/2010 10:02 AM
In this game I had a guy with 25 speed truck around for an ITPHR.
10/1/2010 10:41 AM
I don't think ITPHR had anything to do with speed/baserunning...check out this response I got from CS.

thanks for looking into this. I guess it somewhat answers my question, but it still leaves me hanging a tad. I am still wondering about inside the park HR's. Are they a separate event from over the fence HR? I don't think someone with zero power should hit very much if anything over the fence, but I do think a fast enough one should get lucky every once in a while and hit an ITPHR. Basically, is an inside the park HR different from an over-the-fence HR the same way a double is different than a triple? Are they independent of each other? I get the feeling they are not.

Currently, they are not independent events. We understand your point and will address it in a future engine update.

Thank you.
