I think thte assumption would be that if you are plugging a true DH at 1B you don't have a heavy hitting firstbaseman

I don't like to assume such things.   Maybe he felt that extra .020/4/6 was extremely important.

I will tell you in my case, I did not have a big bat first-baseman that was being replaced.

As I was just looking back at Schourek for a frame of reference, I was actually amazed he had so few (-) plays.  My 1B in Cooperstown had BARELY better fielding last season and didn't produce nearly as much offense.

I've got no problem putting Ronnie Snow at 1B. 8 Range/19 Glove. 12 negative plays and 1 error through 111 games. And he's hitting .334/.432/.611.

18 negative plays and 5 errors. I'l take it with those offensive numbers.
