I get an alert if there is a problem with the overnight games. And by alert I mean blaring cell phone ring that gives me a heart attack.
LOL, man i wish i couldn't relate to that one. for years i had a network monitor at my house that would go off if the network or power dropped (due to hosting servers in my basement). its a terrible thing to wake up to!
my co-worker's wife is a nice lady, but as in any marriage, sometimes he needs to duck out. so he logs into the server monitoring software from time to time and runs a test, that results in an alarm going off similar to the one you described, thus giving him a rock-solid excuse to bolt out the door :)
