generally, top recruiting teams / coaches do not run zone as much, so the winning % should not be as high.
If I listed the things zone does I probably would start with gives a team the ability to play with 7 or 8 player rotations, instead of 9 or 10 with man and 10 or 11 or 12 with fcp. Closely behind, it allows you to hide one bad defender, which may help a team trying to rebuild who does not have access to complete studs.
I think the two biggest flaws with how coach's coach with zone, first, they play too deep a rotation, and second, they recruit as if the zone gives them a green light to recruit bad defensive players.
this is sort of real life, I know of very few top programs that zone, none in my son's conference, certainly in the big ten mich state and wisc are fierce m2m def teams as are duke and unc over the years, syracuse is the one team that jumps out at me as a zone program.
