New to D2, quick recruiting advice? Topic

What are you guys talking about?  I don't see any new release notes to this effect.

  • Adjusted assist odds for a team to create more separation between good passing teams and poor passing teams. This does not change the impact of passing on FG%.
  • Added an individual player matchup component to rebounding, so that a mismatch will produce better numbers from the player with the advantage. This will in turn create a little more separation between the truly good rebounding teams and poor rebounding teams.
  • Adjusted the distribution of players available for the different divisions/prestiges to better match the distribution prior to the 5/12/2010 release. In particular there were too many recruits slotted for the DII level and not enough at the lower levels of DI.

Note: This does not change the actual ratings of the players, it just affects what schools a particular quality of player will consider and so affects also what recruits will show up in the search for a school.

There were definitely a decidedly less number of dropdowns this go-around in Knight.  Look at Clemson as an example.  They had 8 schollies, and they filled them all.  In the past, they would have signed like 3 or 4, and taken 4 or 5 walk-ons, simply because many of they guys they signed would have been snapped up by D2 schools.  I think the days of seeing walkon-stuffed simmys at D1 are over.

I don't know if the new recruit effect has happened in Smith yet but I (A+ prestige) just signed a 140ish center and two 160's PF's. I've done better and probably could have done better this time. Some DI players in the lower 100's went to DII.

Jbob if the new recruits were created before 2/16 then it hadn't gone into affect.

I pulled the 134th ranked SG in Allen this last recruiting period (about a week ago), and yes it was after Seble's latest tweak to the system. As far as limits, "roughly" 440 to 540 for overall ratings (my guy was 525), and how far up the ranking scale depends on the situation. I've pulled guys in the last couple of seasons in the 150/160 range, so I'd say your failrly safe up to the 150 mark, and if the guy falls through the cracks like my guy did, you can probably go up to 130. I wouldn't try anything past that though. As far as pulling a guy off a D1 sim, it's very tough, but doable. I've done it a couple of times, but not every time. I'd say the odds are less than 50%, somewhere like 30/70 or 35/65.

If recruiting was a week ago in Allen than the recruits were generated before 2/16 which means they would've still been under the old system.

It looks like we had the old recruits. Should be interesting on what we can bring in now.

That's certainly going to screw a lot of D2 schools.

I think it just makes it more fair.

People acting like this is the apocalypse for D2 schools, this is the exact system that was in place before Seble made the changes about a year ago. D2 managed to survive all that time under the old system just fine.

once everyone has the same playing field it will be fine. Not so good for the teams that had to fill multiple spots this year vs the teams that had 6 freshmen from the last class...eventually it will even out.

Really, its that hard to do?  Will they still dropdown?
Yes, but your range is most likely 180-200 for B/B+, 165-200 for A+ from what I have seen. Our Cali conference in Knight only pulled down like 5 ranked kids in the whole conference. Not counting the backyard bonus, which I think adds a decent amount of leeway.
I'm not seeing that in Iba at all.
Probably didn't go into affect in Iba yet. 2 a day worlds are on shorter cycles by 15 days I think. We haven't recruited in Tark with the new restrictions yet but just judging from the players that show up on my D2 list the pool is much more shallow.

What DJP describes happened in Knight seems remarkably similar to how things used to be before Seble made the change that allowed for the super studs at D2 and D3.
Iba just generated new recruits overnight - I have 93 ranked recruits on my DII screen, up to the #131 SG (JUCO 1) and #142 C (HS).  Didn't seem to change much.
