Also what is your opinion of '69 Matty Alou (who I have seen do well in most leagues but have never tried him) and '21 Ross Youngs (usually the guy I draft to hit lead-off for me) batting 1-2? Do you guys put a lot of emphasis on walk-to-strikeout ratio for hitters as well? My offence is pretty much done but I noticed they have very low strikeouts (which is good) but only about 500 walks cumulatively. Honestly guys, my very first team did well on pure luck, and my current team should hopefully make the playoffs (12 games left 6 games up) and I'm just looking to improve my teams in any way possible.

Hey guys I am also relatively new to the WiS world, and was looking for tips. I have a few questions about the team I a currently building. I usually try to go with four $7 million starters with dennis eckersley closing and a few $1-2 million dollar relievers. As this will only be my third simleague team I was wondering if there are any really popular or good relievers I could grab for a bargain to get from my starters to Eck who has always been great for me. I am going with 3 starters ('02 Noodles Hahn, '69 Mike Cueller, '09 Cy Morgan).

I know usually what to look for in pitchers (i.e low WHIP, OAV, and HR/9) but have had trouble in the past with the likes of Dick Bosman, '05 Addie Joss, but have gotten strong performances from Larry Gura, and Orel Hershiser.

I usually do well on offence, but always have trouble with my pitchers. (i.e. never having drafted a starter worth more than $8 million. Some of the relievers I am looking at right now are '15 Tim McCabe who I have noticed as being a good reliever in other leagues, '08 Jack Ryan, '11 Buck O'Brien, and '18 Earl Hamilton. They all have extremely low OAV's (except Hamilton. but I'm willing to let it slide on account of his 0.00 on HR/9), and none of their WHIP's are above 1.11.

Just looking for suggestions on players that have worked well for you guys in the past and wondering with these pitchers what sort of park I should go in. (My lineup is speed, AVG, and OBP, with two sluggers in the heart)
I don't like to mix SPs from different eras, since you can't match you defense.

This is new to me. If I were to get rid of Cueller and add another deadballer what sort of defence would I look to build around these pitchers? If I am using deadball starting pitchers should I be using relief pitchers from the same era?

Players in this game can sometimes be stretched out a little, meaning you can get a few more ABs or IPs than RL. The more they had to begin with, the more they can give you beyond RL. 1908 Addie Joss is a "cookie" virtually everyone knows about, and a good guy to draft. He works well in a 3 man rotation. The game allows 10%, built in, but you can get a little more than that. I have a hard time with pitching, but I find it is much easier to manage a staff of dead ball era pitchers than more modern ones. 3 guys with IP similar to joss will get you thru a season.

Haha, I have pretty much completely overhauled my roster after going through the forums. Right now I have 08 Addie Joss, 06 Moerdecai Brown and '16 Eppa Rixely as my starters. In the bullpen I have '89 Eckersley, 88 Milacki, 04 Highball Wilson, 15 Tim McCabe and others like Cla Meredith and Frank Corridon. I was wondering if you guys ever create your team in the 'Dream Team' place for Sim Matchup and test against your former teams and other simleague teams that are in one of your current leagues?

I wouldn't use Highball anymore.  He used to be good when he was 200k.  Not anymore so much.  Still ok, but not a bargain.  Trying to use other people's cookies is not the way to go, and that's what it sounds like you're doing now.

I test most of my teams in SIM match-up against the best teams in the same cap I can find.
