You should run the "System" like the real Grinnell team does and try to outscore your opponent ;)

I wouldn't recruit anyone or spend any $ until the cycle after signings. FSS will be cheaper, which means you might be able to scout more states. And once you find a guy, you can lock on and sign within 2 cycles. Might fill all slots and have some $ to roll over.

I wouldn't worry about high school GPA as much as their work ethic. You mentioned a high school GPA of 2.5 as not being recruitable - a 2.5 wouldn't hurt you necessarily

The only track record I have with that is Bradshaw on my Puget Sound squad.  He had a low GPA in highschool and has cost me 20 minutes of study hall to keep him out of the red with eligibility.  Added 6 on that squad because no transfer would talk to me.  So we had 1 walk on.  No one is gaining significant points even though I have been starting 4 freshman and getting killed because of it.  I've also read some threads that seem to point to GPA effecting how quickly players pick up your o and d.

Have you had similar or disimilar experiences?

Plus the GPA is more of a tie breaker for me, if I can't distingish a real difference between 2 guys.

What do they do, is it the 'less than 8 seconds a shot' type thing?  I wonder how that would translate to HD?

oh yeah, we're going to try to work "the system"... :  )

no way you should be spending 20 SH minutes on anyone. I don't think I've ever used more than 10 to start off with

I strongly disagree with this.  I think this can be a very good strategy if you only have 1 or 2 scholarships to fill, or even 3.  But with 10 I'd say you're better off cherrypicking the good close guys as early as possible to try to scare other teams off.  Most D3 coaches won't go after a recruit who's already considering another human-coached school.  In particular the need to get 2- and 3-year players, who tend to get extra attention unless they really suck, suggests a need to get out early and get some guys on the old considering list...

I agree with dashdebater. Take advantage of your massive amount of $$$ early on.

Its nail biting time, I am pretty sure I am leading the charge for 7 to 8 of my targets, but 2 are potential drop downs, pull downs, and while I have spent a lot of money showing them love, I am still at best 50 / 50 to get them.  I have saved some money to go after a couple others if need be, but I don't really want to.  Having a C+ reputation is not helpful.  I didn't really factor that into some of the players I intitally contacted and I likely wasted a few hundred on guys I wouldn't have had a chance on.

Wow...you're in battles for almost all of them! Good luck.

If you're not aware,  at approximately 2:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. you can get updated reports on 'where you stand' with the recruits.  It's on your FSS page for each recruit, at the bottom of the page

Personally, I think it may be a mistake not to take all 6 freshman spots and 2 or 3 transfer/JuCo players.  Applying a redshirt to one of the 6 freshman would work exactly the same as recruiting a senior transfer; as far as evening out the open schollies per season.   Whenever I have taken a 9 or 10 open scholarship team, I will tend to look for at least 1 or 2 freshman to start and try to give minutes to as many as possible.  You just need to be patient and target dropdown players.

For the first 2 seasons, that strategy will yeild a terrible team that you will need to suffer through, but, by seasons 3 & 4 it can win championships.  Of course, there are a number of different possibilities.

True.  I have a couple unsigned, unrecruited frosh targeted if the juco's fall through.  As an aside, which offense would best simulate Grinnels system, I am leaning toward fast break / uptempo, but is it more of a motion uptempo?

Fast break/Uptempo is very difficult in this game.  Most coaches avoid that combination
