Yep. I played c6 exclusively as black v.  1.e4 for my whole career.  actaully I played it against d4 and c4 too, hoping to transpose.. The KAAAAAAAANNNNN thing from Star Trek was a happy coincidence.

caro kann was popular in late 90s and early 2000s among he 1200-1700 crowd. I never used it.

Karpov used it in the 70s and 80s to great success. I topped out about 2250.

It's a little too closed for my taste, which is probably why I never played the French either.

I transpose to 1. nc3 against the C-K, honestly - 1. e4 c6 2. nc3 d5 3. qf3 ... I mean, why not?  Against the French I play the KIA... but most of the time I'm playing 1. c4 anyway.

Congrats gjp. I guess I'm still crazy since I don't think recruit generation prevents mid majors from being contenders.
kmason, it's at the point where it's now clear you just don't listen to what other people are saying.

No one has said it's impossible, only that it's exponentially harder. Can you please confirm that you understand the difference?

Also, not to minimize the accomplishment because it's awesome (congrats!), but doing it at Dayton in the A-10 (prestige equal to many BCS schools) is not the same as doing it in other, lesser conferences, which is really what people are talking about. Not really aware of people who don't think you can compete in the A-10.

Yeah Dayton has a B baseline prestige...

I think Dayton got a baseline  prestige "boost" over what it should have because one of the creators was a Dayton alum.

Yes this is true. TK was a Dayton alum.

Good job reading a sarcastic comment and taking it as a definitive opinion.
10/9/2011 10:57 AM
Yes, I understand that there was an element of sarcasm in there. But the way it unquestionably reads, the sarcasm is directed at those who disagree with you -- as though Dayton's success that season means your opinion re: recruit generation has been validated. Which, of course, it hasn't.

If you meant it in some other way, well, I'm just telling you how it reads.
