for purposes I discussion let me add the following:  2011 Reyes has 12 errros for me thru 31 games, 247 innings played and 103 attempts with a predominantly deadball staff and always playing at 100%...  perhaps an anomoly however.....

Hub Collins from 1888, with very slightly worse ratings gets you about 75 errors and 28 +plays. I'd guess 65 errors (per 1450 innings) and 25 +plays.

looking at 1887 sam wise at SS.  869 F% ..  58 errors at SS.  How many errors would he have with modern pitchers behind him and more importantly how do you arrive at that number?   thanks

If you're determined to have an Old School shortstop with a good bat, good speed, good range and hands of stone, I'd take both Hub Collins and Jack Glasscock over Sam Wise.  Hub will steal more bases, Glasscock will field better, both have about equally good range and you're only giving up a little offense.  And both are over $1 MM cheaper.
