Help me figure out my park Topic

Well, there are a lot of requirements that you have to use teammates of your key guys (I'm using Speaker, Ruth, Maddux, Johnson, Walsh)... so if other people are taking deadball pitchers as their key guys then there will be some triples in the league. But maybe you're right.. the 1B/3B/HR numbers in Arizona are about what I think I need.

I'm not sure why you'd desire a consensus approach. Its like asking what is the consensus roster to draft or whats the consensus opening move in chess. Half the fun is figuring it out yourself.
There is a consensus on how it works. The singles factor affects both singles and batting avg. The other ratings affect percentage of hits that are that type. What you do with that information is up to you.
Does this mean that when the park factor that is minus for HR eliminates a HR, it will revert to being a 1B, 2B, or 3B, but will never become an out? When a park that is minus for 1B rejects a 1B, will it always turn it into an out? And while I am at it, if a park is minus for 2B, when it rejects a 2B will that hit become a 1B or can it become a 3B or a HR?

I think that's correct, firesalt.

that means singles are worth less no?

A park that is + for singles actually helps determine if the PA is a hit.  In the event tree,

Is it a hit is determine first, then what type of hit.

So a + for singles is really a + for everything.

I see, that is when you are speaking of the park being a + singles park. But how does that play in for a player with a high 1b#?

I disagree with TOnJ that a + for singles is a + for everything. So to asnwer your question chisox, in a + singles park, a high 1b# guy's batting average and singles hit will increase to a further extent than someone with a lower 1b#. That makes him plenty valuable.
JohnGPF did some studies on park factors. I specifically remember him testing the difference in triples hit at a -3 singles, +3 triples park like at&t or petco (whichever is +3) and something like hilltop which is +3 singles, +3 triples. He concluded there wasn't a difference in total quantity. The only difference obviously is proportion of total hits. I don't remember his evidence being concrete, but it was at least compelling. Probably wouldn't be too hard to look at data again, but I've never seen the need to.

Thanks Boogs for the input. I am learning the hard way so far. On an open league, I put together a high 1b/100ab# team at PNC (+2 1b) and all they are hitting is singles!  Without much speed the singles are not getting it done so far.

I just fielded a high singles team and they suck too, lol.

I started off 16-4, and now I am about 19-18.  But the fast start will give me some hope that we can pull things together....a waiver move will help.  Good luck with your squad too.

On the next page it says that the XBH modifiers modify type per hit. This page implies though, that batting average is bumped first before hit type is accounted for, so I guess its possible that you could be getting a double boost in a park like Hilltop. Your total hits go up across the board, plus your hit type percentage goes up. I've never bothered looking at hard data, so hard to say.

So the system takes:

a:players batting average first
b:then implements hit type such as single, double, triple, hr from their own numbers per 100/ab?
c:then park is figured in and hit type may go up or down pending on the park numbers. If it is a singles park then any hit goes up regardless if your player has a high 1b/100 ab #.

If this is all true, which it isnt, I am probably not 100% correct....but my comment is.... A player with a high 1b/100ab# doesnt really have an advantage to get more hits except singles?
