Open League's....Yawn Topic

OLs don't fill that quickly. Used to fill a few every day.

Open League "Beginners should start here"
so it's right there in black and white (actually it's red and green on the signup page). if you're bored with open leagues try some other kind of league. yes it might be harder but you're bored, remember.

Dynamic pricing and let the market set the salaries. Update salaries every 3 months. Bill James Classic Baseball was doing this 15+ years ago.

please, please... you do NOT need Joss to win in OLs... Sure he's the easy way to win but by no means is he the only way... I have never used him and never will, same for all the usual cookies... And I never used Caruthers when he was the monster cookie before the last update either... and back when I first joined in 2004, (this account is not my first) it was the Silver King era with super long relief, stayed away from that as well... and around 75% of my teams do make the playoffs and I win my decent share of championships.
So guys that just draft cookies all the time are either lazy or lack guts, imagination or experience... And sadly I see a whole bunch of very experienced owners that keep drafting the same old cookies all the time.
I mean, where's the pride?! Show that you can beat the system, winning without cookies is far from impossible!

Given that we have one of these threads every month or so, I'm surprised there was almost no interest when I started a blacklist league recently.  For those who aren't familiar, this is a league with exactly the same rules and format as an OL, but each season owners nominate several players to be banned, and the list of banned players grows over time.  By about season 3, you're seeing a completely different set of players than you normally see in an OL.

If there's enough interest in this idea, I'll be happy to try again...

We have a lot of emo people on this site, contrarian, so I think we'd prefer to just whine about it. Thanks.

There are still owners with very high rankings who play mostly open leagues.

It's not easy to win an OL championship, but it's easy for experienced owners to enter teams that always have good records and a shot at the playoffs.

contrarian, I rarely ever read or post in the forums so I wasn't aware of that league of yours, please sitemail me if you ever get it going again, I will most definitely enter it.

It's very possible to deal with this issue ourselves and not just whine about it like boogerlips said. Let's list the banned cookies here, start a forum(maybe this one) that continually promotes it(and don't let the thread die). START A STANDARD CONTINUOUS OPEN LEAGUE ALTERNATIVE NOW!. It will become very popular if all the commentor's here continually PROMOTE IT(I'll also promote it in any regular open league I'm in). Contrarian, please start it again with standard OL rules.  I pledge to enter each one(and promote it) until it takes hold. Anyone else?

I was in a massive blacklist league, can't remember who ran it.  But we ran out of blacklist spots and it became just too massive to deal with on an Excel File

Sure, that will eventually happen.  After about 20 seasons (4-5 years of real life).  And then we start over...

True, you definitely don't NEED Joss to win an OL championship, because I've won several without him. But he definitely helps  a LOT.  I just started an OL team with 11 Verlander, 95 Maddux, 11 Kershaw and 09 Kraus in Target Field, with some good hitting, and it should be fine.

I have fun wrecking OL leagues with Coors field teams....and still find a way to get into the playoffs with them.

Coors will be my next team.
