As someone that puts his ML calibre prospects directly on the 40M roster after signing and never demotes them once they're at the ML level, i don't see the fuss.
The only players i ever demote are journeymen, or a player i don't care about, so i don't care if they lose a point here or there. I would care if people started getting boosts, for artificially shunting players between levels, or were allowed to shuttle players between the ML level and the MiL level with impunity. That doesn't happen, Arlen used to bring this up and use the Cubs as an example, but player X, was promoted and demote and promoted and demoted and he was fine. How do you know he was fine mentally? maybe he got fed up of being kicked between levels? I'd be ****** if i was getting kicked between levels over and over again, it stinks of poor decision making, or knee jerk reactions.
There can't be that many (any) significant players whose entire careers are bouncing between the levels, as they will be out of options after 3 years. They would have to pass through waivers every subsequent, year, therefore by definition they are replacement level, and not very good.
