Why?

Well, that's retarded.
Isn't that exactly what would happen to those players if the draft was shortened, they'd be available as FA for rookie salaries?

Because it's dumbing down the game AND playing Big Brother.   I can take one wrt round 11-25 but not both.

It is.  But it takes away free will and dumbs down the game.    I can't tolerate both.

So preserve free will and don't auto-sign them.  If they don't get bonuses, there's no reason to sign TC players as opposed to your own picks.

One or the other.  Or just do away with rounds 11-25.
3/2/2012 10:45 AM
So we have:

1)  Eliminate rounds 11-25 of the draft

or

2)  Reduce slot for rounds 11-25 of the draft down to $0

Reducing slot to $0 is saying "Here.  Take these free players and try to manage your minors."

You have kids.  You know they'll take better care of their toy robot if they had to rake the lawn to get it than they would if Grammy Tec just gave it to them.   Giving away free stuff never works out for the better.

I've suggested elsewhere a broader mix of high-ceiling/low-floor and low-ceiling/high-floor prospects, with the added twist of enhanced importance of makeup and patience WRT to reaching projections. Some owners would target guys who start out at 70 OVR but might peak at 78, while others mighttarget the guys who start out at 40 but have the potential to peak at 90 (for example).

The players with better makeup would probably be taken earlier, but you might end up with a gem in the late rounds if you do your homework, spend money on scouting and then coaching, and manage your minors well. Of course, there'd still be plenty of turds in the draft pool, and less diligent owners would still end up with more of them.

No system will allow a "late round gem".

I just don't get this irrational desire of some folks that they magically get BL potential players in the late rounds of the draft.

Do your homework, rank your prospects properly, and you'll get them in the first 3 or 4 rounds.

I don't see a problem with 10 rounds only in the draft.

I would prefer to fill my Rookie League teams with guys I drafted.  I have a formula that makes my draft list and think this is a good way to get the best guys available.  Only having 10 rounds would be annoying because I would have to search for RL guys every year rather than just signing most of my draft picks.  The change would have limited value, but would force an annoyance on every owner every year.

Isn't the Diamonds in the Rough supposed to make some low round picks BL players?  I think that system is perfectly fine.  I get at least 1 guy I can use on my BL team as a reliever, DH, defensive bench guy.  On occasion you will even get a catcher or 5 starter type.  Isn't that enough random luck?  I suppose if someone wanted to spice up the luck factor in the game you could argue that some Diamonds should end up even better.

They claimed the DITR were going to improve.  I dont even read the messages anymore, I know it's my rookie league mopup guy going from a 31 projected to a 39 projected.  Just take that part out of the game.   Im sure it'll save some coding.

Have the same draft pool and have those guys as un-drafted FA. There will be plenty. So filling rook leagues won't be a problem.

I realize that.  What I am saying is that going to the draft results screen one time and checking the 12 of 15 guys I want to sign that are below pick 10 is much easier than sorting and offering guys deals through FA contracts.

If the undrafted FA auto-accept then those owners who get on at 7 am get first dibs.  If you have to bid and they wait a day to sign now we are bidding on AA filler guys.  That seems like a really big waste of time.
