Pulling down ranked players in DII Topic

How far away?  I think distance has something to do with it/
only distance of 70 miles or less matters - at 70 miles or less, you can talk to players an a+ school could talk to. i don't think there is benefit to a+ schools within 70 miles, but im not sure.

actually all the way down to the 136C would talk to me this year at SIUE (d2, a+)

"But for the first time I can remember, I'm now seeing ranked guys as D2 non-pulldowns."

Yeah, I saw guys ranked 170+ dropdown to DII this period.
That's weird because as an A-prestige school in Allen, I was rejected by a number of 170ish guys.

In fact, in the Gulf South, arguably the best D2 conf of all time, we only got a couple of ranked guys, and no one higher than 170.
170 is not equal to 170. the 170 sg or sf talking to you is a lot different than the 170PF talking to you. of course, it changes every season, based on the open scholarships of everybody.
I understand.  But no one in the conference recruited anyone higher than 170-180, regardless of the position.

Maybe DI in Allen in more filled than DI in Tark.   I don't know I am just guessing......honestly, I don't think any of the ranked guys I recruited would have played for a decent DI school.  It could be these guys just sucked....

if his ratings and potential arent special why recruit him?
He was "best available" at the position I needed (PG).  The guy I wanted more (and who wasn't ranked)  had already turned me down and considered someone else.

ethan, when you say "turned you down" ... that's not really true. Sounds like you may be reading too heavily into the generic messaging from recruits. If you can get the #140 pg to consider you, then you can 100% get that unranked guy to consider you, too.

Now, if you don't want to battle for him, that's another story. But he definitely didn't turn you down.
When I get an email that says "I don't see me playing for you next season", I tend to cut my losses and move on.  Past experience tells me that, if I can get him at all, it will be 2 or 3 times as expensive as it should be.

That's not true at all. That's just a canned response. Might be luck of the draw, might be that he's considering that other team already. On its face, it has absolutely nothing to do with how hard or easy it will be to sign the guy. As long as the guy is open to being recruited by you, that's all that matters. The other verbiage is just window dressing.

It doesn't matter anyway, Girt.  By the time I could have sent more effort he was already considering someone else.

with my A+ prestige D2 school, i just pulled down the #152 SG from 1500 miles away using only 2 home visits, 1 campus visit, 5 scouting trips, 20 phone calls (9, 7, 2, 1, 1), and 7 letters.  he also rejected 2 home visits, and 2 campus visits, and also rejected 10 guaranteed minutes.

Before I try to pull down someone I offer them a scholarship along with calls and letterl.  If they don't decline it then I will try to pull them down.  I've used that as my radar on who is open to me recruiting them.  If I tried to pull them down first, would I get more acceptance or does it matter?

How longdo guys take to drop down? I got the back up email yet guy hasn't dropped on last day of recruiting.

Occasionally they won't drop even with the back-up message.  It doesn't happen often, but you'll notice it from time to time.

Seems like a potential waste of a $100 scholarship.  Why not just send a call first to see if they're open to being recruited or not?

When should I give up and look elsewhere?

Unless something has changed (and it may have, so don't quote me, been a long time since I've recruited on the last day), the last dropdowns usually happen around the 11 a.m. cycle on the final day.  Maybe someone else can confirm this, or at least let Reddy know that I'm wrong.
