Dan Gilbert made himself look so stupid with the way he handled LeBron leaving.
so did Lebron
People dont look at the Lebron decision in the proper context. First, off the only story in the NBA for almost two years (and every question Lebron was asked) was whether he was going to stay in Cleveland and where he would end up. Second, unlike many of the so called stars in the NBA who destroy their teams seasons midway through by demanding trades (Melo, Paul Howard, none of who get **** for it by the way), he wouldnt talk about it or allow the situation to be a distraction. Third, because the story was so huge and misguided as it was (which he has since apologized for numerous times) the intention was good as he raised over 3 million dollars for charity. Fourth, had he gone to one of the big market teams like Chicago or NY (which I find hysterical because Knicks fans wouldnt shut up for 2 years about how Lebron was going save the franchise and then called him a bum and worthless immediately thereafter) the vitriol that was directed towards him wouldve been lessened. Finally, ESPN sold him out. They were equally to blame to the Decision and yet their around the clock hared of him once he choose Miami was disgusting.

Lebron wasnt rude, vindictive or any of the other adjectives you can attach to the classless Dan Gilbert and he was killed for making a mistake which had good intentions.
+1.

LeBron's only "sin" here (and saying it as someone who enjoyed rooting against him because of it) was the immaturity with which he handled the situation with the decision show - that he had to be that guy who could successfully shut out the media and be the one to break the news on where he was going to play in the most public way possible. I 2nd the Knicks fans comment since my car radio is always on ESPN NY - their hatred boggles my mind when really, LBJ was NEVER going to come to NY; and what Melo did to his franchise was a million times worse but he gets a pass. The truth is if LeBron wasn't the best player in the world, no one would care; but he is, so they all hate. I'm happy he got his title, and I'll be even happier when Durant gets his by going over Miami next year. People need to get over the LeBron hatred.

Dan Gilbert... oyyy... For the record I bet heavy against you too - never had a chance. But you could always tell LeBron thank you for all those millions and millions of dollars he made you :).

Couldn't happen to a less deserving person(Lebron James)

For the record, I don't care that he chose to go to Miami.  I care that he was a complete douchebag in the way he did it.

i think you mean that way he announced it. "the way he [chose to go to Miami]" was an internal process that hasn't really been discussed, other than everyone knows he made the business decision that playing with wade and bosh would be the best chance - for him - to compete for a championship. looks like he was right. the former complaint (the "decision") has been discussed ad naseum - get over it.

I must be missing how Carmelo 'DESTROYED" the Nuggets.  They got a bunch of players, made the playoffs 2 years in a row and are widely considered to have "won" the trade.  Melo told them in advance he wasn't going to stay and get the best deal you can for me, and the franchise benefitted.

Lebron meanwhile never even had the courtesy of informing his owner he wasn't coming back, Gilbert found at when everyone else did, which explains his bad reaction, which by the way I agree was over the line.    I'm sure the "look how great I am" tour and dance party didn't help his mood either.  As for the situation not being a distraction, we must have wacthed a different series when the Cavs lost to the Celtics.

All I said was Lebron made himself look stupid. So did Gilbert.   Both are true.  It's over, he got his ring.  Congrats.  But he'll still always be Arod to Wade's Jeter.

it ended up being a sign and trade...the Cavs got 2 firsts and 2 seconds for LeBron.

I never said they got nothing for him, I was pointing out that Carmelo hardly ruined the Nuggets

I think the people who think Lebron is an ******* for "The Decision" are the same people who simply refuse to put context to most situations.  You have no idea what he was thinking or how that played out.  You assume, based on zero personal knowledge, that Lebron is just being a jackass.

Personally, and I have nothing to back this up, I think he was planning on staying with Cleveland when they scheduled "The Decision."

Think about it.  He sets up this big promotional event, with all the proceeds to raise a crapload of money for Cleveland charities.  Then he chooses to go to Miami, knowing everyone would hate him?  It doesn't make any sense.

I think he made the decision to return to Cleveland, but in the interim, Bosh signed with the Heat, and he and Wade convinced Lebron to go to Miami.  The show had already been promoted and money was already flowing in for charity.

Now, again, I have nothing to back this up.  But let's say this is true - and I don't think anyone will say this scenario is implausible.  Isn't Lebron actually a better person for taking crap that he knew he would get so that the Boys and Girls Club would end up with a couple million bucks?  Doesn't that make him a good person, not a dick?

Again, I'm not saying I know what happened, but neither do any of you.  Isn't it possible that Lebron isn't a huge *******?  I'm sure the sarcastic response will be "no, that's not possible," but I really find it difficult to believe that so many people jumped to absurd conclusions and hate this man with such a passion, when most of the evidence about him points to the fact that he's a pretty good guy generally.

Anyway, off my soap box.

And no, I'm not Cavs or Heat fan, and I really don't care that much about James.

I didn't think there was a shot in hell he'd go back to Cleveland, especially with how poorly he played in the last series against Boston and how that series ended....10 TOs or whatever it was...you could tell that was it.  Regardless of what he said or didn't say, Cleveland fans should have known/seen from his body language that he wasn't coming back...took his jersey off I believe.

You have absolutely no idea what he was going to do and neither do Cleveland fans

If memory serves, he was being pushed by his "advisor" to stay in Cleveland.  Lots of things go into a decision like that, not just frustration at the end of losing a series.

If you couldn't tell he wasn't going back to Cleveland, then I really don't know what else to say....

YOu can discuss it until the cows come home.  The fact that its been discussed alot doesn't make him less of a jerk for doing it.

Someone isnt a jerk if they had they right intentions but wrong result. Unfortunately he got bad advice and thought his decision which was widely overblown could be used to raise money for kids. He was wrong, admitted so and apologized for it on multiple occasions. People will hate him no matter what he does. Its a shame because aside from that he's always handled himself well off the court, is unselfish and a team player which is what we all allegedly want from our athletes.

LeBron was 25 years old, Dan Gilbert is an accomplished businessman, one would think he'd be able to handle rejection a bit better, instead of acting like a spoiled 10 year old who didn't get his way.
