Well, someone here is showing poor form but I don't think it's you, therewas47.
+1.  Anyone who has played for any length of time has run across a coach like Chorpening.  They're all talk and usually end up quitting the game within a few seasons anyway since they suck so bad.

To the point of a D2 team reaching too low by recruiting a D3 player, I would agree with the consensus opinion here that there are plenty of players who happen to be a division lower who (A) are better than players a division higher than them, and (B) can certainly help a team under the right circumstances.  You have to recruit the players that you feel will best help you succeed and if that entails recruiting a D3 player to a D2 school, then so be it.

I actually rescind my comment because I realize there are times I reach a division down as well. Especially if I want a 1 year transfer player instead of a walk on to have the extra money carry over instead of losing it all.

The coach also posted in the Crum Forum. I posted my response there

I don't think I would reach a division down for a recruit, but that's not the same as someone trying to pull down (or even getting a drop down) a recruit who I still see at a level above.

100% nothing wrong with the OP's actions.  The response from the D3 coach is pretty sad, though.

And I agree with isack that most of the time when this happens, it's probably the D3 school reaching up for a D2 player and the D2 team is just recruiting someone on their D2 search.  No reason to blame the D2 school there.

Note: I didn't go after the guy, although I see nothing wrong with it.  I just noticed a fight that displayed how some people treat recruiting battles.  Sorry, if I didn't make it clear that that was an example.

Well I think i'll likely step off his guy because I can probably get another guy for cheaper.  Right after I made that discovery I found this in our world forum.  Obviously, some people don't feel the same way.  Also, he sent this to the guy on his coaches corner:

Dear, Wisconsin Platteville coached by platoisek, this morning I had a center named Joseph Matthews who I have pumped alot of money into and this morning he emailed me and said he was going to play for Grinnell which is the school I coach, he said ...

...me, That is really busch league and a jerkoff move by you, Just know that in the future I will go after every single recruit that you go after the next few years.
And that is why I was apprehensive.  Still you all make good points and I agree that it is ok.  It's just crazy how some people treat the game and specifically recruiting battles.
I hear snot sniffling in this QQ post - No mercy therwas47!!!  Let him slobberknock the coaches corner all he wants, Joseph Matthews has a new dream school where there are double rainbows and fields of gold.  Don't hold back, if you want him and he'd be a good player for you.

Nothing wrong with going down a level, but just be prepared for a response similar to chorpening's, or worse. I'd say that about two-thirds of the time that I've reached down and "stolen" a player, I've received an angry, scathing, derogatory sitemail from the affected coach.

There's a player I was recruiting this cycle in Crum who started as a DIII player. I got on him first, and by the second morning of recruiting, there were three DIII schools involved. By the second evening, a DII school had thrown their hat in the ring. Maybe it just means he's a good player. He was high in nine categories, including REB, DEF, SB, and LP. I don't know if either of the other schools are complaining, but I'm not. Well, other than bemoaning my bad luck of selecting just the right player so that everyone else would come fight me.

The player that I was originally thinking about signed at D3.  He is ath-49(high) spd-48(high) reb-12(high) def-44(high) sb-1(low) lp-44(high) per-63(high) bh-26(high) pass-17(high) we-54.  Should be a ridiculous player at that level.

Uh, yeah.  By the end of his career, that guy could play low D1.

You don't get to call "shotgun "in recruiting.....
EXACTLY. I've thankfully never dealt with this, but this stuff is fair game. I had no idea people called dibs on recruits until I started frequenting these forums.

I always laugh when someone says they are going to go after every recruit you do in future years... If that is the case then they clearly aren't a very good coach. I don't change my recruiting game plan from what my team needs, not how I can screw another coach.

I also agree that there are D3 players that are better then D2 players, and the same with other divisions. You find what your team needs and you recruit the player, it makes you plan for how to spend money and when to go "all in" on a player with no guarantee's.
it would be a terrible waste of money to recruit just to try and "screw" someone else. i feel like you'd end up screwing yourself.
