unless seble changed it, don't diminishing returns for FT shooting kick in way earlier than everything else? outside of that, 20m in FT shooting is crippling to high growth players in other areas, its clearly not worth it for most of those guys. i guess it depends on the guys you recruit, but even guys i have with high need for FT shooting, if they have good growth potential overall, they cannot come close to affording 20 minutes! the only time i can get nearly that high is for low growth guys who happen to have high FT potential or low medium guys who really need FT shooting badly. FT shooting can be pretty important but when you have good room to grow in ath/spd/sta (not all 3 but enough of the 3 for conditioning to be important) for anyone, or the specific cores for each player, it seems pretty rare FT shooting is as important as those things - even if you could put in 20m without being exposed to harsh diminishing returns (im not sure about that part of it).

I heard somewhere that you need to keep any category where it's at at 3-5 minutes--that 1 minute is basically wasting that minute.
Once a category has been maxed out, you can take all minutes out of it and it won't drop more than a fractional point. I use the 1 minute so that I don't have to dig through emails to figure out which red categories are maxed vs. which ones I just didn't bother to put minutes into that might still have a point or two of growth available  that I can go after once cores are filled.

If a category isn't maxed, you need to have 7 minutes into it to hold it level, except for PER and LP, which hold level at 3.

this is good advice, just want to throw in 1 detail. 7/3 minutes is the ABSOLUTE WORST CASE requirement. most players can make due with less. for example, a 1 work ethic player playing 0 mpg can sustain on 7mpg, per seble (never actually tried it). but a guy with say a subpar 30 work ethic playing a subpar 10mpg, he might only need 6. and a high work ethic guy playing good minutes might only need 4.
That's interesting gillispie -- thank you for posting that! I'd noticed some "creep" into categories that I didn't think should be gaining any points in some players but it was never anything worth investigating (seriously, do I care why a kid just gained a point in a category where I didn't expect it? Heck no, let him gain another!) Now I know why that's happening!

Indirectly related, this season I have a guy in D1 with 84 WE who has gained 2 points in 2 categories that were blue but with 0 minutes allocated in practice

I sent in a ticket.   CS said FT works the same as other skills.
