If WIS would finally take away baseline prestige, conference realignment would not affect coaches.

Also, they don't have to "keep up" with the NCAA, but a few changes could be made right away, for example: First rename PAC 10 -> PAC 12.

(Fresno State: PAC 12 -> MWC; Utah: MWC -> PAC 12)
(BYU: MWC -> WCC; Boise St: WCC -> MWC)

etc etc, there are several more one off trades that could be done.

...or just change the nameplate on the school, and leave the coach and the players where they are? So if SMU moves from the AAC to the New Big SW, and Bob Jones Univ moves into the AAC, former SMU coach larrybrown75 and all of his recruited players, prestige, etc. stay in the AAC at Bob Jones U.

He's Larry Brown, he'll change schools at the drop of a hat anyway...

There's no way WIS can keep up with the changes. What would they do with Texas Christian,.......1999 (WAC);  2001 (Conference USA);  2005 (Mountain West);  Oct. 2010 (Big East); Nov, 2011 (Big 12)???
I think a cool touch, though completely impossible would be users in worlds being able to change conferences.

So if I was coaching at, for example, UTEP and built a successful program but didn't want to leave them and the Big 12 had a program that was continuously crap the Big 12 could vote to trade UTEP with that school.

I realize theres a number of things that wouldn't work with this, I'm just saying it'd be fun.
I've always wanted the Big 10 and MAC to do something like this in real life for football. The MAC championship game would determine who gets to move up to the Big 10. And the Friday of the Big 10 title game, the bottom 2 teams would square off to see who gets to stay and who gets relegated to the MAC. Tell me Northwestern vs Purdue wouldn't have gotten monster ratings.
I've been saying for years that NCAA football, basketball and Major League Baseball all need to borrow the relegation concept from the English Premiere League and implement it. Especially baseball where September is irrelevant for a handful of teams.

the problem for MLB is stadium size.  A major league stadium would be a nightmare for a AAA team

Now, MLB COULD divide into two (or three) levels - and have relegation etc between the two or three levels.

Relegation is a great concept, but the Big 3 or 4 sports are so well engrained in our culture at this point, that it's unnecessary and virtually damning to the relegated squads.  In a fledgling league looking to do something to boost ratings/viewership/attendance, etc...I'm all for it, otherwise the 4 majors will never have a relegation system the likes of European soccer.  Again, it's not something you can just throw in the mix after 70-130 years of existence.
