8-19 Team Makes the PIT Topic

i'm the lone star in tark, where we've put together a conference as good as the GLV, despite multiple sims each season. the coaches in the glv (and other conferences like it) have figured out a way to game the system with scheduling. more power to them! the teams that are successful should be rewarded with post season trips. however, the 8-19's of those conferences should be golfing or otherwise watching the post season on tv. even if that means rewarding coaches in empty conferences.
1) [Deleted to keep thread on track and not turn it into a ******* match]

2) As for gaming the system, are you just parroting helloflyers' comment about our scheduling despite the fact that you yourself corrected him? I'm in a rebuild season and still scheduled two of your lone star colleagues (beating one, likely losing to the other this afternoon) and have yet to be favored in a game this season. My final 6 are against sims in an attempt to give myself an outside chance at a .500 record, but a number of our owners play human-heavy schedules - platoisek, as you yourself noted in the conference chat, scheduled all humans (including you) and had 6 ranked teams in his next 7.

To the extent we "game the system" it is this - for most of us (though there is no "plan") - when we have good teams, we go out and beat the good teams from other conferences. When we rebuild, we have some "easy wins" (against sims or humans) and a couple challenging games that we can perhaps steal.

3) In season 87, I was below .500 overall after a brutal (4-12) conference slate. I finished the season at an RPI of 38, SOS of 10. I ran the table in the PI - without any close games, as I recall - because I had a team of mid-level NT or higher talent. In any other conference, including Lone Star, I would have easily been above .500 that season. In quite a few conferences, my team could have been conference champ.

I know you said "the 8-19s" but here's the thing - if you're going to have a line, it has to be drawn somewhere. The most likely spot is .500, as people have suggested in this very thread and as it used for the NT. If you use that line, you're going to eliminate better teams from PI competition in favor of weaker teams.

Further EDIT: And again, this is a D2/D3 thing, where there is no Big 6 baseline prestige, etc. built-in advantage.

1) [Deleted to keep thread on track and not turn it into a ******* match]  THANKS! THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A FRIENDLY DISCUSSION!

2) As for gaming the system, are you just parroting helloflyers' comment about our scheduling despite the fact that you yourself corrected him? NO, I WAS IN THE GLV FOR A SPELL AND COACH BILLY MADE THE SCHEDULING STRATEGY VERY CLEAR. HE'S RETIRED FROM THE CONFERENCE, BUT THE STRATEGY LIVES ON. FWIW, I DON'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. LOOK AT MY NON-CON IN THE SAME WORLD... LITTERED WITH SIMS.

AGAIN, I AM RELYING ON MY EXPERIENCE FROM WHEN I WAS IN THE CONFERENCE WHICH WAS A WHILE AGO.

3) In season 87, I was below .500 overall after a brutal (4-12) conference slate. I finished the season at an RPI of 38, SOS of 10. THE GREAT SOS AND RPI IS A PRODUCT OF THE ENTIRE CONFERENCE GAMING THE SYSTEM.

I ran the table in the PI - without any close games, as I recall - because I had a team of mid-level NT or higher talent. In any other conference, including Lone Star, BUAH HAHAHAH, YEAH RIGHT! (OK, JK) I would have easily been above .500 that season. In quite a few conferences, my team could have been conference champ. IN OTHER CONFERENCES, YOU WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE BENEFIT OF THE RECRUITING CASH TO HAVE PUT TOGETHER THE SQUAD YOU COMPETED WITH.

If you use that line, you're going to eliminate better teams from PI competition in favor of weaker teams. I AM OK WITH THAT RESULT.

Further EDIT: And again, this is a D2/D3 thing ITS NOT - I BELIEVE THE SCHEDULING STRATEGY WAS DEVELOPED IN ALLEN ACC, where there is no Big 6 baseline prestige, etc. built-in advantage.

I'M OUT OF COMMISSION UNTIL SATURDAY NIGHT, SO IF YOU SAY ANYTHING THAT WARRANTS A RESPONSE, BE PATIENT WITH ME!
