I don't see the point of offering the start and the scholarship and then the redshirt and no redshirt if you're going to need to use an HV anyway.

Just offer the scholarship and the HV and be done with it - it's rare that this doesn't get a kid to sign with you, especially if signings have already started and no one else is on him.

Like I said twice now. If you don't have the money for HV and you need a guy last minute. You do this to 3-4 guys and you'll get one.

Three or four guys at $110 each is pretty close to the cost of one scholarship plus an HV for a guy close to you, but yeah I guess if it's still below that threshold then that's the way to go.

I always thought you needed a scouting trip to satisfy the supposed face-to-face requirement.

he was considering me after the scholarship offer and a set of 10 letters, which I sent prior to the 2/16 11:00 PM cycle. i sent 3 more letters (all the cash I had left) and he signed. for what it's worth, I'm Div 1 C prestige and this guy is a 528 international player.

Thanks for the info.....couple things............1. I think D1 works differently, the prestige factor is more important 2. Was he on the D1 list or the D2 list? 3. Ten letters is like nothing, that surprises me 4. This does support the theory that players need less as time goes by

Say, on the very last cycle, how likely would it be to sign a guy with no other offers while giving him only a scholarship and 20 letters? Assume A-ish prestige

Yeah, I sign guys with letters and phone calls all the time.
