Pittsburgh Condors please.  Speaking of which, how does a Pittsburgh team get a name like Condors?  Did they move from California?  That's like the Utah Jazz... just terrible.  But I love Pittsburgh and Condors, so it's a perfect fit!

The Memphis Pros changed their name before the 72-73 season.
Charlie Finley, owner of those great 70's Oakland A's baseball teams bought the Memphis franchise-
According the Finley, the Memphis franchise would draw fans from
T ennesse
A rkansas
M ississippi

pretty lame right? Even worse than fhe former Memphis Pros -
(I take it they didn't confer with a marketing or design firm on either choice.)

Even more lame:
Finley emulated the mix and match uniform combinations of the A's and would have white jersey green pants and vice versa -
Even more lame (lame-erer?) : the Memphis Tam logo: a Green-Gold-white striped beret...

The Pittsburg Pipers won the first ABA championship, with Connie Hawkins, and moved the franchise to Minnesota. I suppose threre was some connection to their first Commisioner - George Mikan- as a reason or influence to move to Minnesota.

this was the second attempt for Minnesota to have an ABA team, having already had the Muskies leave after the leagues first year, and move to Miami.
The Minnesota Pipers didn't do any better than the Minnesota Muskies with attendance, and the owner returned to Pittsburgh only without Hawkins who had bolted to Phoenix of the NBA.

I suppose the Pittsburgh fans were turned off by the team returning with their tail between their legs. After the return season to Pitt. as the Pipers the franchise had a contest and 'Pioneers' was the winner, although a local college objected, and somehow they ended up with Condors - I couldn't find a reason or rational for Condors though.

I started reading Terry Pluto's 'Loose Balls', (I finished it 4-5 years back) and its a great examination of the ABA's history

Below is a list of ABA players and their career years in the league.
It should be a pretty comprehensive list but, there may be some names missing.
Hope this helps

Very interesting.  ABA does have one of the best collections of team names in my opinion.  both fantastic and horrific.
