I would definitely take advantage of a second redshirt if it was an option.

zone isn't the problem, press is
press is probably still played more in d2/d3 than man, and may be slightly ahead. but man rules d1, its used way more than press at the higher levels. i think those more or less offset each other, and i think the perceptions in both d1 about man being superior and in d2/d3 about press being superior are overstated. i really don't see man and press as being out of whack in today's game, like they used to be.

If they were ever to offer a second redshirt I would think they would also have to make it less likely that sophomores will take a shirt

Fix the crappy walkons. I would like the walk ons to be a little better. D3 getting a walk on in the 290 to 330 is crazy give me a 350 to 400 guy. A walk on in d1 should be able to start for a d3 team with ease. Just my 2 cents.

Then again you would lose out on players from d3. But that could be part of the plan for recruiting it would add an element to recruiting a "preferred" walkon

There's nothing wrong with zone d, as it currently exists. It has significant advantages (and not just in recruiting stars and living with walk-ons) for coaches who know how it works.

i can't speak to d1, its a different game that i've barely played.

and I don't think press is necessarily superior in d2, I just think it's broken.

edit: it isn't fun to outshoot teams with 50 avg defense by 20% but turn it over 28 times and lose

In real life, there are just a handful of teams that run predominantly zone with major success at the top DI level.  Now, this is a game and real life is not a complete answer, but it is a starting point.

We know Cuse runs zone.  We know about the old Temple matchup zone.  How many other teams are known for zone?

Now, lots of teams will switch to zone in certain game situations - but that isnt the same

A lot of what is said in this thread is valid - it would be nice to make zone more useable at the top levels.  It already IS useable if you study it carefully and recruit right.  It can be made better

BUT, this isnt on my top five list of things I hope WIS works on.

Ohio State ran zone at the beginning of the year and sporadically throughout the season, but reverted back to man for the majority.

Duke also ran some stretches of games in the zone to challenge opponents.

However those are again 2 very limited examples.

Baylor I think ran a 1-3-1, I only watched their GSU game, so I don't know
