I explained it when I signed it.  Obviously he's overpaid.

First, he was going to be my CF for 3 seasons.   His range fell off unexpectedly so that didn't happen.

Second, I didn't jump out with 5/100.   I was prepared for 5/80 for my CF for the next 3 seasons.  As I recall it,  I had him at 5/75 late in FA and got jumped.   He was the last available option at that point.  I took him back at 5/90 on the 7 AM cycle.   And lost him on the 11 AM cycle.   I went 5/100 with a small bonus.  And got him.

Finally, when I failed in his first season, I had to adjust when his range fell off.   I did and won 2 of the next three WS.   He played a big role this last season due to injuries/fatigue.  He didn't win the WS but he helped.    I'll take 2 of 4 WS for the duration of his contract.   Circumstances sometimes dictate signings.

Dude I'm not questioning it. I was just shocked when I initially saw it. And I wasn't the only one. Everyone has contracts that aren't perfect.

That was in response to ersberg.    It's not an ideal contract.   I'm simply explaining I was prepared to pay 16m to my CF.   I'd lost the LCS the season before and the WS the season before that.   CF was a weakness and Washington was the best option.    Circumstances dictate signings most of the time.
