Glad at the additional interest......

gw, that's a good question. I wanted to give it some thought before answering. My feeling is to allow only 1 version of each Def/OL/ST unit with owner choice of whether to use 1960 or 1985. Going forward, the owner could choose either 1961/86, 1962/87 etc. If the owner decided to drop his franchise unit (i.e. Bears Defense), then anyone who wants can then choose the Bears defense. That's my thoughts.....I'd love to have some thoughts on this subject as well and let the group decide.

My thoughts are just the opposite - we went with the double year player pool to give us a much deeper pool of talent............no signing scrubs who played 5 games and had 3 receptions for the year. We should continue with the idea and give owners a double unit pool.
It is not like we are drafting the 85 Bears and someone else can get the 86 Bears, but they should be able to draft the 60 Bears.(totally different era).

We are drafting players from 1960 or 1985, we should also be deciding between units from 1960 or 1985.

I vote for if you draft the 85 Bears someone else can draft the 60 Bears.Because if you have the Bears "D" you will always have 2 seasons to choose from. But if you have the Bucs,Panthers,Ravens and so on you would only have 1 "D" to choose from.Plus this would give a team a chance to get a better "D" at the draft because you would have more Defenses to choose from. Many of times in the old league your "D" would run bad for a few years and you wouldn't be able to draft a "D",because the only Defenses left in the draft were worse than your "D".So your team was stuck not making the playoffs for awhile.

I'm 100% fine with whatever the majority want to do on the issue......I'm just ready to get started!

Its clear if we separate the two seasons as two different units then there will be more teams with good defenses because there will be more units to choose from.
49 instead of 28......This means more teams will feel they are competitive for that season.....
Using the 1960/1985 seasons:

Separating the 2 seasons:
Average D of top 24 teams is $27.2M
Worst D of top 24 teams is $24.3M

Combining the 2 seasons:
Average D of top 24 teams is $26.7M
Worst D of top 24 teams is $21.4M

This happens because the bottom 4 teams in the combined case are worse than $24.3M.
The best D that would not be used in the combined case are the 1960 Giants (Sam Huff and the gang) who are the #10 defense overall of the 2 seasons at $27.2M.

When we move to 1961/1986 there will be either 26 D's available to draft, or 4 D's on the board.  I can tell you that in the Pro League (a 1-year progressive) I bailed out because my D was horrible for the foreseeable future and there were only 2 equally horrible choices (in the 70s) available.  And NOBODY wants to trade a GOOD Defense......

I don't know the exact details discussed thus far but you can count me in as confirmed. I am definitely in and will worry about the details when its time to play.

I sent a sitemail to the 4 owners listed as interested but not yet confirmed. Hopefully they'll all confirm and we'll be within 4 spots of full.

I'll confirm-in, and vote for each version of the team defense being available on a go-forward basis. Allowing both 1960 and 1985 Bears Defense.
