Something that might be fun for next time is to have two wildcards per team. One that can be used in Round 2 or after, and another that can only be used from Round 6 on.
I like this idea. I also like the idea of adding more meaning to the protected players beyond protecting them from wildcard selection. I am thinking of possibly making those protected players completely exclusive to your team negating the position flexibility option but I am open to thoughts on this for the next version.
Suggestion #1: Allow 2 wildcard selections, but make each more limited. For example, the first selection could be used only in the $120M and $80M leagues, and the second selection can only be used in the $110M, $100M, and $90M leagues. This might create different strategies and bring different players into the wildcard thinking.

Suggestion #2: Allow one wildcard and one franchised player. The franchised player would be from one of your selected franchises, and he could also be used for 5 seasons. This could result in franchises being picked at positions that would not otherwise be picked (e.g. Seattle SS to get ARod for 5 seasons).

Suggestion #3: A variation on #3 above would be to allow an owner to choose whether to protect players or franchise a player, but not both. My thinking here is that protecting a player is more about denying use of that player for 5 seasons by someone else than losing the 1 season you would be able to use him. However, franchising a player would be more about being able to use 5 seasons of one player at the risk of losing 1 season for several players. An entirely different risk/reward decision.

Suggestion #4: Change the salary caps. I don't know about everyone else, but I think it was too easy to find the talent to fill the 5 different cap limits. I left a lot of players off those rosters because I just didn't have room. It would be great to have more of a challenge to create competitive rosters at different levels, and it may change some of the drafting strategy. I would suggest $140M, $125M, $110M, $95M, $80M.

Suggestion #5: Give a 35 point bonus to anyone who drafts Vida Blue as a wildcard. It is important that this rule be retroactive.

Good ideas, CLW, especially suggestion 5.

Good one on #5.

I like CLWECS's suggestions, especially #2 and #4 (although I'd prefer the caps to be $140M, $120M, $100M, $80M and $60M).

I'd also like to see us start our leagues closer together instead of waiting until Season One is done before starting Season Two. My fear is that we may not be able to keep the same 16 owners through all five seasons the way we have it arranged right now. I'd suggest that in version 2.0, we do it this way:

Season 2.1 - $140M
Season 2.2 - $120M (starts 2 weeks after the start of Season 2.1)
Season 2.3 - $100M (starts 4 weeks after the start of Season 2.1)
Season 2.4 - $80M (starts 6 weeks after the start of Season 2.1)
Season 2.5 - $60M (starts 8 weeks after the start of Season 2.1)
