OK, as a neophyte, I need to know.
My 7(will be 6) are pretty bad at ATH/SPD/DE. I'll recruit better but I'm not completely screwed because of that class, right? I don't mind losing while I recruit better but, damn, losing for 3-4 seasons will suck.
Unfortunately, that team is trash. Harris is ok at the 3, Blum is passable at the 4. Your best 1 is Barnes. You can play Grinstead and Snyder at the 5 in a 2-3 and feel kinda good, but ATH means a lot for post players. They have significant effectiveness ceilings. You might as well play Franklin at the 2.
If you decided to stay for a 2nd season there (I wouldn't), then you should plan on rescinding a bunch of scholarships. Now you get extra cash and AP when you rescind players that you didn't recruit. That would allow you to stuff the team with your own players for next season...at least then you'd feel like it was developing talent.
The reality is that there are multiple ways to win, but your team has got to be strong at either ATH or SPD and something else. For the most part, it's best to build a team intuitively with fast guards and athletic forwards. The post players in a zone, especially, can have a 1 speed, but need to have very good ATH / REB / SB to be effective. The benefit of playing zone would be to allow you to take a 10 ATH / 90 SPD / 10 DEF / 75 (PER, BH & P) player and feel good about giving him a ton of minutes. However, there's just no fixing being bad at both offense and defense.
Sorry for the bad news. Probably 4 seasons away.
