Looks like I've gotten VG for Strong Defense twice for Chestnut.

Season 89 was 77 points per 100 poss. SOS was 20.
Season 92 was 79 points per 100 poss. SOS was 11

But yeah, it's pretty difficult to get if you have a decent schedule.
Yeah I have a cake non-con and at 25-0 can only get down to 0.88 PPP
I'm at 82 w/ NMSU. Played a lot of sims though. #34 SOS.

Getting a VG at high D1 for defence is next to impossible with an elite schedule due to the unpredictable nature of EEs and its way tougher to separate your team from the next as most of the top schools have similar recruits (where as in D2/D3 you can get lucky and pull in an elite class compared to your peers).

I'm at 79.86 and listed as very good for defense, unless I did the math wrong.

Here's how you compute your Defensive PPP (Points per Possession):

Look at your Total (not Average) Team Stats and punch in the Opponent #s into the following formula:

Opponent Total Points Scored
_______________________________

OFGA + 0.44 x OFTA - OREB + OTO

OFGA = Opponent Total FG Attempts
OFTA = Opponent Total FT Attempts
OREB = Opponent Total Offensive Rebounds
OTO = Opponent Total Turnovers

That's a divide by the way in the formula.

That will give you a percentage if you multiply by 100 will be how efficient your defense is which is what seble is using for scoring the Wants Defense preference.

Right now, with some sitemails from Benis as well, I've gotten the range for Very Good as high as 80.5% and scored a Good for as low as 84.3% (so somewhere in between there is the threshold). I've been recording info since 3.0 was released but don't have any data on the lower end of the defensive spectrum (my team is never that bad....).

The preference score is updated after every game you play so if you score something in between that range, let me know what your preference is and I'll add that data point into my spreadsheet.

gdog is right though that teams like mine which consistently play hard schedules (over half my games are versus Top 25 opponents every season), we can almost never get to Very Good since the metric never takes into consideration difficulty of your opponent (playing cupcakes all season is the way to go to get a VG score for Defense).

The OP score was 89.87 so about the midpoint in the Good range...
The equation is actually =Total Opponent Points/(OFGA + (0.44 x OFTA) - OREB + OTO)

This will help when you make your spreadsheet.

Wow. A year and 3 months later. Thanks.

I had been using 0.475, but found a few inconsistencies which makes me think 0.44 is probably right. Thanks for reviving this.

Yea. It wasn't high on my priority list, but got around to it.
