That sucks hard. That's a throw-your-phone-against-the-wall-until-it-explodes-into-a-million-pieces type of game.

I saw your result last night and figured you were losing your mind over it. If you played them ten times, you'd win nine. That's a horrible time to get a bad sim.

1st - the SIM played another very good team (Erskine) and only lost by 3 so they definitely aren't as bad as you think
2nd - don't mind the uptempo, but your offensive distribution in this game sucked. Don't know if that was your plan or not, but that kind of heavy dist to one player can lead to upset losses. If you have the better team it is always better to spread the ball around.

Tyberg had `22% of my distro. I am not shitting you.

I would not call Erksine very good...

OK - "good" but not very good
What was your 2nd highest player dist?

Yeah but he played 34 minutes. So he was going to shoot a ton.

Agree on the good statement.

Lee had 4 and 3 players had 3.

Tyberg had 6/21 of the starters distro: 28%.

I didn't dig too deeply but this is one of the reasons I hate, hate, hate, hate playing uptempo. Years ago there was a thread on uptempo (or one that devolved into it) and several top coaches said they see more bizarre sims/results when playing uptempo compared to 'normal' and so they stay away from it. The only time I'll run uptempo is with an upperclass-heavy roster pressing team and I better have a huge stamina/ath/defense advantage or I'll run 'normal' every single time.
Seconded. I never play uptempo against a human unless the other team has a 9 man (or less) rotation and mine is at least 10. I've uptempo'd myself out of the game too many times.
I've also noticed this, but if you have a really strong and deep pressing team, it seems to work well. But against the top opponents, I have faltered. However, I go back to wondering if I had not played uptempo would I have also lost.

That's why I have mine add up to 100%.

When you start screwing with low distribution #s you can get results like that.

Cub, you're pretty obviously a very good coach. Hell, in our game in Wooden you had Weber State ranked #5. Yet, somehow my Delaware(!) team manged to go to your place and produce a shocking upset. I think you admitted that you underestimated my squad which was part of the reason I was able to pull the upset. I guess what I'm getting at is that if you've had all these higher rated teams, better seeded teams, in the NT and keep getting upset, it may be to something you're doing wrong as a coach. Maybe not, I'm not entirely sure. But no one can get that many bad rolls of the RNG dice.

For what it's worth, I also agree with the uptempo thing stated earlier. I'll play it every once in awhile against a bad Sim team and once in a blue moon against a human, but I think it's a very bad choice of tempo to run with certain offenses (triangle being the primary one). Just my opinion on that though and others may find that I'm way off base with my comment.

Let's ignore that Delaware game as a bad RNG, I'm pretty **** at quick team evaluation. I understand Emy, but if I'm a bad game-planner then there would be no reason I would gameplan well enough to get 1 and 2 seeds in the NT. I wouldn't call myself a bad gameplanner, but not a good one either. My theory is that motion/man doesn't fit my crazy ATH/DE system at all. I'm changing NW Naz to press/fb next season.

I'll give you two pieces of advice when it comes to your "luck" in Division II

1. Stop saying "Jesus Christ". Just don't mess with Karma.

2. You need a least one or two 3 pt. shooters with a rating of 85 or so. It will really improve your offense.

1. Haha good idea.

2. Yeah no kidding. I'm switching to fast break press now.

I know you're not soliciting advice, but I would think long and hard about switching to FB/press. It will make next year's team much worse, not just from an IQ standpoint, but your team is not currently suited for FB/press, for the same reasons it's not well-suited for uptempo. You want a lot more speed. If that's what you want to recruit for, cool, but keep in mind at D2 you need *some* perimeter scoring either way, motion or FB.

My thought is, you built a certain type of team in a very specific way. I think you'll have more success following through with that plan - despite the setbacks we all run into once in a while, like a tough sim, or ill-advised uptempo.

I swear I am the most unlucky person ever in the NT. Jesus Christ. I was a 2 seed, close to best team in the nation, won the Yarnell in Iba, had Top 5 team defense avaergae in IBA DIVISION 1. I have two losses, one to a zone team (I have no shooting), and one poor sim to a fellow Top 5 team that was probably a 70-30 game. So I get an easy draw second round of NT, basically a sim recruited team with 2 solid to good human players. I'm up 14 with 14 to go. Then THIS happens:

https://www.whatifsports.com/hd/GameResults/BoxScore.aspx?gid=14911543&tab=boxscore
On the game
I almost never play a +2 against a Sim to start a game. I don't see that Queens shot that many 3s going in. If they are shooting 20+ threes regularly I might go +2 against a Sim. Also they don't have the outside shooters to beat you from beyond the arc and their big men will be taking some of those shots from the outside.

Offensive players will have off nights. That's bad luck. Your defense should have won you the game. If they were just a little closer to the basket on defense IMO you win.
