They can land on a divot on pitch #1, #8 or any warmup pitch in-between 1 and 8. Most pitchers level the ground off where they land before they even start throwing. That's rediculous!

Yeah, but then there would be a definite benefit to making the road bullpen mound LESS like the actual mound.

Eight pitches is reasonable.

Games used to be around 2 hours long. The game is more specialized, rosters are expanded. There is more substitution, more pitching changes.

They created the longer games. The MLBPA won't budge on reducing rosters. Stop pushing pace of play. The fans don't complain about length of games, whether they are in attendance, or enjoying the game via TV or radio. The advertisers can't possibly mind getting more time to sell their products. Screw the networks. Pre-empt if you wanna cut away to show Heidi in the late going...(does anyone remember the NFL playoff game where that happened? I think it was Oak-Miami...)

Changing the number of warmup pitches to 3 is just a thought. I really don't care if they get 3 , 8 or 15 for that matter. I think there are other things that slow the game down more than warmup pitches. Just the speed of how fast the pitcher works to throw the next pitch affects it more than anything. I do know that the faster a pitcher works the more I enjoy watching a game.

You're right we don't complain about the pace of play ... we've just stopped watching as a result.

Pace of play isn’t the problem. It’s the strikeouts that are the problem. Players aren’t used to hitting 100MPH fastballs.

After watching the Futures game, that’s our hope for baseball. This next generation will be used to seeing 101 on the gun and CAN hit those wipeout sliders. Just gotta hold on for a few more years. Hitters will adjust. Baseball is a game of cycles.

That rule isn't strong enough. You get one wasted throw to first--ONE. If you throw over again and don't get the guy, then he goes to second.

It's an obvious oversight in the rule book. Logically, would the framers of the game have limited the number of throws that the pitcher had in his primary mission--that is, his throws to home plate--but given him an unlimited number of wasted throws to first base? Obviously they would not have. They did not limit the throws to first base because it simply was not an issue in their generation. Up until about 1910, 1920, the powers of the game felt free to fix the rules when the game wandered up some dark alley, but they never restricted throws to first because the game never wandered up that particular dark alley.

It was never a problem until the 1970s. But after the DH rule was adopted, the (idiotic) notion that baseball was a perfect game that didn't HAVE any problems took hold, and the game's authorities were afraid to fix things that were obviously wrong. That attitude dominated until Bud Selig was able to nudge us forward about ten years ago.

statistically speaking, the more you throw to first, the less successful the base stealer is

so if that's a time issue it would HAVE to be ruled out--otherwise the pitcher is dumb to stop

i personally don't have an issue with throwing over, because pickoff attempts add to arm fatigue and chance of error, but i do hate it when the pitcher steps off the rubber and does not throw

i really do have a problem with pace of play

every batter steps out, adjusts his gloves, looks to the 3B coach, takes a few practice swings, steps in, every pitch

Was listening to sports radio the other day on the way to an appointment and finally heard a report that the commish admitted the ball had been "enhanced" to allow less drag through the air.

I don't enjoy this brand of baseball. The strikeouts are just out of whack. If you struck out well over 100 times a season, you had little bat control and it was seen as a detriment. We now have 13 seasons over 200. Batting averages are down, walks are down, stolen bases down etc. Offensive strategies are almost non-existent...the hit and run would be a disaster with most of these guys at the plate. I enjoy HRs but not at this rate.

Agree with pitching inside...taking it away is a large part of the problem. Grow up prima donnas...the game was just fine without you.

Of course, just my opinion.
