also, they are ******* Disney movies. I didn't take my kids to see them because of their underlying messages (if any), I took my kids to see them because my kids found them entertaining. I doubt they even gave a thought to the messages they contained.

The argument that I've heard isn't so much that Sleeping Beauty was assaulted or anything like that, but more so that female main characters in older Disney movies get their worth from finding a man. The theme is find your prince, then you'll be happy/all with be fixed/etc..

That's not a great message. And they don't do the same thing to the male characters. Imagine if the theme of Lion King wasn't Simba growing into a capable leader with the help of family and friends, but instead Simba pining for Nala to love him and make him happy.

Newer Disney movies are better. Moana, for instance, was great. The young female lead was a hero and there wasn't any love interest in the movie at all.

I think the only Disney film I've seen in about 3 decades was Pirates of the Caribbean. I never could figure out the so-called "message" in that one........... That Pirates are "cool", get drunk and laid a lot, and have exciting lives????

I CAN tell you though, based on the effect on my own Granddaughter, that Princess Bride **** should have been banned.............what a colossal waste of time and my son and wife's money. I've seen pictures of my grandchild all dolled up like some PrincessWhore (makeup and everything---------must have spent 500 bucks on the hair.outfit/etc) at that Disneyland "world"............. I thought it was purely SICK!

You gotta remember...........Disney is a CORPORATION. A CORPORATION'S prime directive is to re-leave you of your mind, money, and dignity (in that order!!) in order to enslave you to their world of make believe and sickness and false priorities and values.

On the surface, there is nothing wrong with a love story. The problem is the way they used to be framed and the fact that they were so one-sided.

In Aladdin, he has to fake being a prince to hook up with Jasmine. Is that bad too? Nala actually helps Simba and talks some sense into him but in real life, male Lions are the leaders of the pride. Moving away from Disney movies, there are a lot of things that happen in older movies that were laughed at and treated like no big deal that were actually horrible. Revenge of the Nerds is the easy example. One of the nerds actually rapes a chick by pretending to be someone else in costume and it's great! Nerd gets the girl!
