$500K Minor Leaguer Topic

To be specific, he'll get $500k if you drop him to the minors but keep him on the 40-man roster. Drop him from the 40 and he becomes a free agent.

What do you believe would happen if he stays on the BL roster?

He's got a big league contract for this season only. He should be showing right now as a pending major league free agent.

I could be totally wrong about this, but I believe because he has less than 3 BL seasons, (so he would be making BL minimum in a normal situation), therefore he may be auto-signed for 500K regardless of his current level of assignment.

I'd be curious to see how this pans out and if he does actually show up as a pending BL FA.

He is not showing up as a big league FA or on the arb report. If I wasn't such a tight wad and he was half decent, I would keep him just to find out what would happen.

That's what I figured.

Pretty sure that he doesn't show up because he will simply be auto-signed for 500K for each of the next 2 seasons, (unless released pre-rollover).
After those two seasons he would then be arb eligible, at which point he'd go through all three arb steps before you would ever have to offer an actual contract again.

At least that's the way I think it works.

Yeah, that would make sense.

So, would this guy get $500k next season if I kept him?

Looks like that guy didn't get $500K after all -- did you keep him or release?

I kept him. I demoted him during the playoffs.

Did you keep him on your 40? Or did he leave via FA but allowed you to sign him to a minor league deal? If so, interesting he didn't want a ML deal after a season with a higher FA contract.

I kept him on the 40.

Interesting. I guess that means that we still don't know exactly what situations result in the mysterious $500K salary.

I would guess that he would have gotten $500k if I would have left him on the BL roster after rollover.

It happens if the player is in the minors too. Befuddling.

I have one of these guys on my Moonlight Graham team. Coming off his first contract, staying on my BL team, not showing on my Free Agent or Arbitration reports. I'll let you know what happens when we roll over.
