Saw Tedeschi Trucks Band live for the first time back in November. Absolutely spot on in every facet.

I've been to some AMAZING concerts in my lifetime. Pearl Jam before ANYBODY knew who they were. Soundgarden at St. Andrew's in Detroit. Jane's Addiction for the "Ritual" tour at the Latin Quarter in the D. The American Rock Fest in Kalamazoo in 84 with Ratt, Accept, Night Ranger, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Ozzy and Triumph. Tool at Lollapalooza when they first broke. Sara McLaughlin several times in her early years. The Racer X reunion in Los Angeles in 2000. The Indigo Girls in Baltimore on the waterfront. Journey and Skynyrd so many times I can't even remember. There are SO many that I got to see because I was a rock journalist from 85 to 95 and then my own bands started taking off. I played in bands for years and opened some awesome shows. We had a Jagermeister sponsorship and we opened for a sold out Disturbed/Corrosion of Conformity Jager tour, opened for Slayer, Killswitch Engage and Mastodon on a Jager tour. Played the MAYHEM FEST one year with an amazing lineup on the Jager stage. We also did biker shows for years and played with a bunch of 80's bands like Great White, Slaughter, Sponge, King's X, Saliva, and Vince Neil. Some of my favorite gigs were the ones we did with former Detroit Red Wing Darren McCarty's band Grinder when he had that going. McCarty is a great guy. We played with them quite a bit around Detroit. I've had the pleasure of a VERY long list of concerts in my lifetime. Probably well over 1,000. Hell, my band did 100 shows a year for a few years. It's been a great ride.

They were INCREDIBLE before the machine ate them up. They still had the MOTHER LOVE BONE spirit back then breathing strong. The show I saw was pre-release of "Ten" and had them opening for the Smashing Pumpkins on the "Gish" tour and the Red Hot Chili Peppers for the "Mother's Milk" tour. They had such FIRE in them then. The Pumpkins were also great then before Corgan went full-on Corgan. And the Chili's were at their best since Hillel Slovak died.

I don't know when you think the machine ate them up but, aside from Yellow Ledbetter, almost everything they did post-Ten sucks.

But Ten was amazing.

The second record was the start of the decline. After that, they became a different band entirely.

I don't know what was the best, but the most pleasantly surprised I've been was by the Doobies. They still play really fun shows with a surprising amount of energy (still is a bit of a relative term here; I haven't seen them in at least 5 years).

Another great concert I saw...Led Zeppelin in 1973 or 4 at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA. Tickets were $6! They rocked, although it took a little while for Plants voice to get warmed up.

I've seen a ton of concerts over the years, so it's hard to pick out the best. If forced to choose one, I'd probably go with my first one . . . AC/DC opening for Ted Nugent, 1979. It was around 6 months before Bon Scott died. They were awesome.

By far the worst, and by a wide margin, was Black Sabbath on their "Born Again" tour with Ian Gillan as lead singer. Such a horrible fit, Gillan with Sabbath. Just awful.

Bono and The Edge walk into a bar.

The bartender takes one look at them and says " Oh no, not U2 again!"

My worst concert was James Taylor. Boring, lackluster, he seemed bored. The one highlight was a guest duet with his ex-wife Carly Simon who came out to sing "Mockingbird"

Me and Verbal Kint got too ****** up and missed that show on New Year's Eve. One of a few regrets I have in my life. Still have never seen the chili peppers

just bought tickets to see the Cult in June.
