That first season of a rebuild, you should be aiming to strengthen your preferences, paint offense, fast break, zone, at least what you can control towards the players you're targeting for recruiting. You just have to swallow your pride a bit and accept you might go 0 -27, even if that means running an 8 man fb/fcp.
Sometimes its nice not having any expectations going into seasons....leaves open a bunch of experimentation opportunities to see if you can find new things that work with your offense or defense

Rebuilds are a challenge, which, to me, makes them very fun. I didn't have that much history in HD2.0, but my perception is that rebuilds now are more challenging and difficult in the first couple of seasons, where you really have no chance of doing anything, but that it's much easier to actually be championship-level competitive more quickly after around season 4.
