League Numbers & Assignments, 2019 Topic

As a reminder, owners who joined after July 1st will not accumulate penalty points but will still must have all six teams in by the final deadline.

Also, penalty points will be removed as long as you do not accumulate 10+ and you have all teams in by the final deadline.

Looks like a lot of people wanted to get the low caps out of the way first

I don't think salary had anything to do with it. Those two themes were not very research-intensive (i.e., way easier to build rosters).

The $120M theme should be the easiest to build, unless people just want more time to fool around with different possibilities.
7/15/2019 12:48 PM
Actually I don't think that's true... the $90M and the $130M are both objectively easier to build. Realistically, the $70M isn't all that hard to build either as it is just a matter of setting the search criteria correctly (and watching out for the 2017 trap).

Looking at the data, the $70M and $90M are easy to build and there isn't that much strategic choice, so most people can build those rosters pretty quick.
The $130M is easy to build but there is an element of strategic choice involved, so some might take their time and play around with the possibilities (and construct the Round 2 roster).
The $110M is harder to build but there isn't much strategic choice involved.
The $120M is middle of the pack as far as difficulty in roster construction, and middle of the pack in terms of options. Weirdly enough, this one actually has the lowest number of rosters submitted.
The Variable Cap is the hardest to build, both roster construction wise and from a strategic standpoint.

Good points, justinlee_24.

That was a conscious choice on my part this year -- make the higher cap leagues (130M and variable cap) the most challenging from a strategic perspective, to entice people who might not normally like high caps / think they are too plug & play, and make the lower cap leagues (70M and 90M) more straightforward to entice people who might not normally like lower caps / think they are time consuming already.

Glad to see it's coming across that way naturally.

You beat me on the response justinlee. I personally didn't care much for the two low cap leagues because the themes weren't very research-oriented. But I understand you need some themes that are easier to build.

I can assure you there will be at least one devious low-cap theme in Round 2. Anyone remember The Chain?

If I think one of these teams is too easy to build, that's when I get worried. I figure I missed something or didn't think it through enough. I have 5 of the rosters built, but I only entered 2 so far. It actually is helping me to write up my draft strategy analysis as I go because it makes me check my thinking carefully.

I'll probably build an entirely different Variable Cap team just to see which one looks better, because there are a lot of ways to tackle that beast and I have little confidence I've hit on the ideal gap between subtracted salary and added value. Is it better to add one more season just to improve a couple roster spots but lose a few million off the cap? What's the sweet spot? You could go many sleepless nights trying to guess that.

Yep that one was brutal. Also, if I remember correctly there was a lot of confusion in what was legal and what wasn't so hopefully that won't be a problem in the future.

Yes, we won't be doing that one again this time but was just illustrating that there will be something fairly challenging.

Had an issue with my spreadsheet so penalty points will not be assessed for yesterday, but will be for today
