" This was an important goal of the update, as we wanted to more closely resemble real life."
imho, i believe this statement is true..we're dealing with 18 y/o just out of high school youths here..if you as a coach believe that a recruit knows exactly what he wants at that age you're kidding yourself. i also think that if you believe every 4-5* recruit would prefer playing for a duke or kentucky, you just aren't in the real world. this is why i refuse to call these % win/loss odds as 'dice rolls'. being from akron oh & witnessing lebron's decision to go to miami to win championships after "promising" to remain at cleveland.. the cavs hiring the coach he wanted to help keep him there..also living thru the akron zip basketball rise to d1 status, when there was just 2 divs..major & small. back then as a small div school, akron had several player who could have played for a major university..some want to be a 'big fish in a small pond'..all this said i have 7 hd teams in 3.0..if 2.0 still existed i'd have maybe 2 'cause you vet coaches got whatever you wanted in recruiting (& wins)..at least i have a shot at competing today..rant over..
That's a good rant. I just have to learn to recruit like some of these other guys at small schools that are landing the 4 and 5 star recruits. Right now the number one overall recruit is considering Centenary and may possibly sign with him. I on the other hand have never even fkn heard of Centenary or know where it's located until I clicked on the school.

You obviously enjoy the new game and that's great, some people do. Whether the new version is more fun, better, or successful is debatable (well not the last one) but whether it is more realistic, is not.

I have no idea what Lebron James has to do with HD or college basketball in general.

The big fish in little pond theory is so overplayed around here it's hilarious. Do I know what all teenagers are thinking? Of course not. But do I know that they'd rather play D1 ball than D3 ball? Yes, I do. It's because that's what happens in real life. Realism means it represents reality. In what reality does a teenager come to a 50/50 decision on whether they want to play at Purdue or Chestnut Hill? It just simply doesn't happen in real life with any sort of regularity to be considered "realistic".

D2/D3s battling D1s for recruits (and winning) simply makes this the most unrealistic version of a college basketball simulator possible.

D3 teams offering scholarships at all is unrealistic, so that is where we’re starting.

D2 teams don’t compete with Purdue when Purdue treats the recruit as something more than an afterthought. When D2 and D3 teams battle Purdue, it’s the result of gameplay decisions that the coaches have made. Unless Purdue is at D prestige, Purdue never has to let a D2 team into signing range for a player it wants.

Also, there are lots of top D2 players who absolutely could play D1. The best D2 teams can beat a lot of D1 teams any given year. Forcing some kind of hard cap on what teams a player could consider is far less realistic than Joe Ball choosing to sign with a high level D2 team rather than sit on the bench 4 years at Purdue, or play for conference championships at Oral Roberts.

I don’t know how, but I just signed him at a 25/75 disadvantage.

And you people talking about we don’t know what’s going through an 18yo head that is just a mute point. This is a fake game so these 18yo we are going after is not real or thinking.

Some are talking like this is real life kids choosing the real life college when it is just a simulated game with fake players and fake teams. I have a deep history with GD and have won many National Championships in football. I know the fake recruiting process, but it is nothing like Hoops. I have a long history in HBD and know the fake players will sign with any team that gives them the best contract, but this Hoops recruiting is on a totally different page. I mean you actually have D2 and D3 team in consideration for top 100 recruits and that in real life would never happen. Like I said before, the number one recruit is in favor on Centenary. Now a number one overall recruit in real life is going to Kentucky, Duke, or Kansas...not Centenary.

Exactly my point Bama. Frank posted a quote from the developer saying that 3.0 was more realistic. I'm saying it's not because of exactly what you just said. Not even close to reality. So I don't know what Seble and Frank are smoking when they say that.

D2 and D3 teams are only in consideration for Top 100 recruits if D1 human coached teams are passing on them. The unrealistic part here is the designation of “Top 100” on a recruit that no human D1 coaches want. Lots of us have suggested making those designations more intelligent, and/or scrapping the “D1, D2, D3” labels for recruits (also unrealistic) and just have them all be in one giant pool.

Also, as discussed earlier, getting in the lead is not the end of the game. Check Phelan’s top recruit again. Centenary might still be able to get back in play, but if Mississippi State (or Arkansas) wants the player, Centenary will be a long shot. If Centanary does beat the odds - like you did - and get the recruit anyway, it isn’t like it’s out of the blue. It’s a good mid-major team in this world, with sweet 16s and an elite 8 on its resume. Surprises can happen, and a very good mid-major occasionally beating out SEC teams for an elite recruit is a rational outcome.

Gonzaga in real life is a perfect example
to this they were a mid major at best in real life a while ago and now regularly sign top 100 recruits

Well that's mostly due to the fact that prestiges haven't been updated since 2001.

Good point, I wonder why the real life NCAA doesn’t update prestige so all those real life kids knew where to go?
