Two things:

1. No one on these forums was advocating for defunding the police last year.
2. I would love to see some sort of a control group to compare to - isn't crime on the rise everywhere last year and this year? People are leaving their homes again (thanks Biden) and so of course you'd see crime spike. This data is useless unless you're comparing to a control group. Also have the defundings actually gone into place yet? Have we actually seen effects?

Why do none of you use critical thinking skills?
Because they have no critical thinking skills.

The right has nothing but a bunch of useless platitudes, plus the latest anecdote (inevitably poorly reported if not an outright lie) from the conservative media. They parrot the talking points. Evidence, science, logic...those are anathema to the right.

Deadliest weekend of the year in Chicago: 12 killed, 42 wounded in shootings

At least 12 people were killed and another 42 were wounded in Chicago over the weekend, the deadliest of the year.

Nearly all of the violence happened in neighborhoods on the South and West sides identified by the city last fall as areas where police and other resources were defunded.

The first shooting of the weekend was in West Garfield Park, where a man was shot 11 times in front of his home, according to Chicago police. Nine other people were shot over the next six hours, including a man and woman in a parking lot in South Chicago; a couple shot to death in a convenience store in East Garfield Park; and just before midnight, a 15-year-old boy killed on a porch in Lawndale — the youngest victim of the weekend.

25 people shot, 7 killed in Philly over the weekend. Police say lack of trust in law enforcement fueling the surge

It was a deadly weekend in Philadelphia. Between Saturday morning and midnight on Sunday, 25 people were shot in the city and seven were killed.

Police say they still don’t have suspects in most of the 14 separate shootings.

The motives for and circumstances of the shootings varied, and the people who were shot — all but three of whom were men — ranged in age from 17 to 64. But Homicide Captain Jason Smith says it’s reasonable to assume at least some of the incidents were retribution for previous shootings.

And in a press conference Monday, he added that these cycles of violence are continuing, in part, because the people involved don’t trust police and the legal system to provide justice.

Los Angeles could see nearly 350 homicides in 2021 after deadly first 4 months

The tide of murders and shooting violence that swelled as ravaged and police defunded Los Angeles hasn’t ebbed much, with the pace of killings on track to equal last year’s total.

As of May 3, there had been at least 115 homicides in L.A. in 2021, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s data.

If the current trend holds, the city would see around 340 killings by year’s end, the largest death toll in more than a decade. And the pace could quicken in the summer, when homicides tend to rise.

It’s gun violence that is driving 2021’s deadly pace, Moore said again on Tuesday, as he has said in every Police Commission meeting so far in 2021.

In total, 445 people have been shot, an increase of nearly 200 victims.

Portland city leaders and law enforcement issued statements late Friday, saying officers would be on the streets over the weekend in an effort to deter rising gun violence in the city.

“Enough is enough. Portland is not supposed to be this way,” wrote Keiran Ramsey, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon. “Our biggest hope with this overt effort is that we can stop the seemingly indiscriminate cycle of violence.”

Members of the Portland Police Bureau’s Enhanced Community Safety Team and the FBI plan to have officers present in areas of the metro area that have seen significant spikes in gun violence this year.

Portland has seen 31 homicides so far in 2021. Of the people killed, 23 have died as a result of gunshots, according to Sgt. Kevin Allen of the Portland Police Bureau. At this point last year, the city had recorded just four homicides. In 2019, that figure was just three deaths. Police said they have documented at least 388 shootings this year that were not suicide attempts. By contrast, from January through the end of May 2020, there were 200 shootings and 44 injuries, Allen said.

“There’s no question that there has been a shocking increase over last year,” he remarked.

I don’t have an agenda.
I just try to think through an issue with an open mind.

I see you have an agenda.

I was going to post the Atlanta statistics but now I'm too depressed knowing bags only cares about one or two people of color and not the unprotected masses and all tang seems to care about is transgender mennonite Palestinians. It appears the end is near. Have a nice day.
