Tough decision. There is a team that my numbers tell me that I should be taking, but I just can't pull the trigger.

Instead, I will take a team I almost drafted 7 picks ago.

This team has a weak offense, solid pitching and great defense, I am prepared to lose a bunch of low-scoring 1-run games.

Team: 1972-73 Cincinnati Reds
Division: AL West
Free Agents: 1972 Bobby Murcer, 1972 Don Sutton

I gotta be honest, this is way too complicated for me. I don't get the free agent thing at all.

I'll use steveizzy's 73-74 Dodgers as the example:

1) Go to draft center and search for all players from 1973 to 1974.
2) Eliminate anyone whose team is the Dodgers or Reds, since those are the two teams available for the 1973-74 year grouping.
3) steveizzy gets to pick 1st from the remaining hitters AND 1st from the remaining pitchers.
4) spinaldog took the 73-74 Reds first, so he gets 2nd pick from the remaining hitters and pitchers.

Also, consider each 2-year grouping as a separate free-agent draft. If there is only team in a 2-year grouping (like the 72-73 Reds I just drafted), then I can select my free agents (from the 1972 and/or 1973 seasons) immediately since there are no other 72-73 teams.

SO ... I don't have to wait to see if somebody else drafts from the same years? If nobody has ALREADY drafted from those years, I can just pick? I ask that because in your example, there are several other 1972 and 1973 teams available.

And what if somebody is on a team that is selected or has already been picked as a free agent?

For example, If I take the 2026-27 Reds, and I want 2026 Smasher Jones (of the Yankees) as my free agent, but 2026 Smasher Jones has been taken by somebody who has the 2025-26 Reds, can I still take him, or is he off the board?

What if somebody has the 2025-26 Yankees as their combo?

Sorry about all the questions.

If the duo you choose is the only duo available in that two-year grouping, then when you pick your duo, you can go ahead and choose which two Free Agents you want from those two years.

If there's more than one duo available during any two-year stretch, then whoever ends up with the last duo picked in that grouping will get first choice of the Free Agents during those two years. One pitcher and one hitter. The only drawback is that your Free Agents can't come from a duo that was available during that two-year stretch - even if it wasn't picked by anyone.

When you see guys selecting their Free Agents in here, they either have a duo that was the only one available during those two years OR they selected the last one available in that grouping.

If three duos are available during any two-year stretch (i.e., 1921-1922, etc.), and all three are selected by someone, then whoever selected the third one gets to choose their Free Agents first. Then it goes to the guy who chose his second, and so on...
