Round 5, Pick 1: Trevor Hoffman, 2009
I need usable seasons from at least a couple of pitchers. Hoffman fits the bill. He had a couple of teammates that were possibilities but none made the cut in the end. He will join with two others to play important rolls in my bullpen.

Round 6, Pick 1: Eddie Mathews, 1954
Continuing to select nominated players who will have an active role. Mathews will man third and continue the line of starters with an OPS# of over 1. No teammates make the cut.

Round 7, Pick 1: Jim Bottomley, 1931
I had been looking at Jim for a while. I intentionally picked a Ruth that could play both 1B and OF so that there were options for my LH platoon choice. I like this Jim better than the Reggie options so welcome to playing first against LH starters...No teammates (again)

Round 8, Pick 1: Dazzy Vance, 1927
Starting to get worried about my pitching. I have two starters... but that isn't near enough. The options are disappearing. In a perfect world Vance would be long relief/mop up. We don't live in a perfect world and nothing about this draft is perfect. He will be part of my day 3 tandem with a future pick. They will have losing records.

Round 9, Pick 2: Ozzie Smith, 1984
I need to take an Ozzie. I will have 41 Cronin starting at short. He will need a defensive replacement. I really would have loved to have the #1 Smith but missed him... now this one will have way too many innings but with no cap it should be a huge issue.
Round 10, Pick 2: Hoyt Wilhelm, 1958
A pitcher I can use. Mr. Wilhelm will be a big piece of my bullpen. During the draft I was getting very worried about my pitching and thinking about adding another starter (not any of the Eck's left)... Can I hope to win 75% of the first two starters games... and get enough from scrubs in the last slot?

Round 11, Pick 2: Willie Keeler, 1892
My panic about pitching led to this pick... and then I didn't end up using the pitcher i was looking at. (Amos Rusie w/571 IP and a 2.62 ERC#). As I moved on I realized the pitching upgrade would require me to use a season of Reggie... who I have never had success with. This pick did make me change my teammate catcher. I replaced a Cochrane season with a RH speedster.

Round 12, Pick 1: Reggie Jackson
Best defensive Jackson left. He will mostly be a defensive replacement. Could spell an outfielder now and again.
Round 13, Pick 1: Dennis Eckersley
I was still thinking about the extra starter... but still want to take the best Eck left. Not that it's great. He will be mop up. The pick did allow me to safely move Hornsby to DH by adding Ryne Sandburg to play second.
Round 14, Pick 1: Bill Dickey
We all get one. None of them are 100% painful
Round 15, Pick 1: Roger Bresnahan?.
Took his pitching season because it was the cheapest. He shouldn't ever play.

Prediction:
If I made the right choice with my first pitching teammates (Lefties) There will be some bad innings pitched by my staff. Hopefully they will win at a high clip while my third starter can pick up a few wins.
88 wins. Misses out on the playoffs.
