FWIW, I've been saying that there are no absolutes when it comes to gameplay since Season 1. A pet peeve of mine is "You cannot use pitchers without --whatever the poster deems most important--" posts. My initial response offered no absolutes other than there is a limit to the number of pitches a pitcher can throw in a given season.

To be clear, the n00b wanted to know if he could look at a pitcher's DUR/STM combo and get a rough idea of IP he could expect. He can. Three of us have shown our super secret formulas for doing this(and we're all in the same ballpark for an 18/62 pitcher). I wanted to impress upon him that it's pitches thrown and not IP that causes fatigue. So I pointed out that effectiveness, coupled with the DUR/STM combo will determine how many IP you get from a certain pitcher.

I think he got the point.

Let's recap:

1) A n00b posted a set of questions in the "HBD Handbook" thread.

2) I pointed out that the questions should probably be posted in a different thread. So that the thread doesn't get off track.

3) Mike decides "WTF, I'll let this thread get hijacked and answer the questions anyway". He provides a vague and misleading answer.

4) I point out that his answer was misleading as written. Not necessarily wrong, just misleading in it's wording and open to misinterpretation.

5) Mike turns it into a three page RSF over semantics. I'm just as guilty for participating.

6) Mike carries the RSF into a second thread (this one), hours after it had apparently died in the first thread.

7) At various points Mike declares that (a) for an 18/62 pitcher there is a limit for IP and that the limit is 150 IP; (b) he intentionally used the term "hard cap" solely to annoy people; (c) there are no absolutes in HBD (yet, according to him an 18/62 pitcher has a hard limit of 150 IP); and (d) I am a forum troll because I questioned his perfectly concise answer.

Did I miss anything?

1. Correct

2. Correct

3. A help thread should actually help

4. Incorrect. Misleading to some, who I'll assume are stupid or trolls. Clear to the rest of the world.

5. I'd disagree over who turned it into a RSF. I'd say the guy who made a pointless point. You know, the user who agreed with the initial statement but argued that he didn't agree for 3 pages.

6. I started this thread to point out the current "problem" with these forums. You have trolls who intend to troll and the well-meaning individual who feels that every comment must be explained in detail. Like the "Yes, he is correct in saying that 85 glove/range would make a fine 2B. However, he has to be righthanded. Also what are his arm ratings? He may be capable of playing SS or, if you like range at 3B, he might be able to play there. Additionally, depending on his bat, you may play him in RF is he can hit the position. 85 range in RF will allow him to make .21 more plays per game. Over the course of 162 games, he'd make 34 more plays than the average RF. Please check WifS recommendations for average RF ratings. Hope this helps" guy.

7. a) There is a limit. Everyone agrees. b) correct. The thread became stupid when you agreed but continued to say you didn't. I felt like adding to it. c) there is an absolute in that no pitcher will be capable of pitching every inning of every game. It's called a "limit". d) you are an accidental forum troll because you clutter "help" threads with pointless points.

I think that covers it.

FWIW, you're not the only one who thinks he has to add something when nothing needs to be added. You just happened to be the straw that broke the camel's back.
9/22/2009 9:25 AM
Are we done? I'd like to plan the rest of my day.
9/22/2009 9:42 AM
We'll see. I've got some free time today and only one of my teams has games to play.

On another note, it's good to see that ADMIN will allow the redlining of trolls. This thread got a lot less cluttered when those posts were removed. EVERYONE should adopt a policy of redlining trolls with no teams.
9/22/2009 9:45 AM
Sox should have redlined our entire RSF in his thread yesterday as being off topic.
9/22/2009 9:57 AM
I told him to do that yesterday. He should start with your initial reply and redline everything after that.

Not really complaining. Just explaining why so many "help" threads get off track.

Give the n00b the info. Unless it's complete BS, there's no need to add some minor detail.

"Yes, 85/85 range/glove would make a good 2B."
"You forgot to mention that he needs to be righthanded."

Well, I think he should first... be handed, preferably righthanded
9/22/2009 10:00 AM
OK, so I've got this 13/90 pitcher... gimme some innings.
9/22/2009 10:58 AM
You're not a n00b, you're a forg.
9/22/2009 11:13 AM
That is not a helpful answer.

I don't like warty creatures.

Did you see the woman that shot the 13-foot gator with a bow?
