How to choose a league Topic

plus i think you get a 10 dollar credit for joining williams cuz they trying to fill it quick. which unless that doesn't apply to first timers then you first season costs you 5 bucks.

one thing I am afraid of, is trying to be taken advantage of . In a private world especially.....but I also know public worlds can try that too......I am not saying it will happen, but "new blood" is always easy to try to trade with....

just don't make a trade without running it by a couple other veteran owners that you find to be trustworthy

Hah, they might be trustworthy, but might be stupid.

The tough thing is finding someone trustworthy AND knowledgeable.

Don't trade until you know what you're doing. Problem solved.

If you're serious about learning the game, seek out one of the mentors.

I actually am talking to 2 of the mentors now...... kind of getting a feel for each one of their strategies. also I read the things we learned in Aaron/Ruth..... and even the thread about how the Cincinnati franchise was built from season to season....

Best advice yet

True dat. You also get an idea if the commish knows his stuff. I took over a lousy, abandoned team for a season to help right the ship, and bierkieser was the commish. I thought he did a good job, stepping up only when needed and being helpful to the newbies in the league.

Another caution I haven't seen here but should be noted, is that some commishes are pompous, self-aggrandizing blowhards that don't necessarily serve the league very well but will tell you they can walk on water if you ask them. Unless you're really, really good at letting things go in one ear and out the other, you won't find those leagues pleasant.

Also, if you are looking for intelligent owners with whom you can have reasonable conversations, you'll want to stay away from leagues full of stupid children. A visit to The Pit will give you all of the names you'll need in that category.

GL with it all.

well i guess that means i'm a horrible commish who can't have a reasonable conversation. Seein as i frequent the Pit and all.

Haha. I'd put my trust in a guy named snake myself. I've never seen him in any leagues yet he has 18k posts.
