Thats the thing, they didn't look the least bit surprised to be leading and never slipped into that playing to 'not lose' - they were going for the throat all along. They weren't playing like they thought of themselves as a nine seed.

That is because they don't see themselves as a 9 seed. I don't foresee them winning more then 1 more game but at the same time they could beat anyone (obviously). Jacobson is a very good coach and a solid recruiter.

He has Doug McDermott (#27 sf, Ames, IA) coming in and I have seen him play, solid player and really should excel in the MVC.

Aldrich is another Roy Hibbert in the making. When he gets up against guys who can match his height and length, he'll be relegated to 12th man real fast.

On a side note, I'd love to see a Bill Self - Bob Stoops match-up of sourpuss sideline looks, that attempt to convey the "I can't believe my players/the officials/everyone else but me are messing this up for me" but really just repeatedly look like "I'm a tool, I'm a tool, I'm a tool."

Coack K in the making? Taking talented players and destroying their NBA careers!

Now all that needs to happen is for Duke to get beat and this Tourny is a huge success! Nothing makes me happier then seeing Duke/Kansas/UNC lose.

Kansas is the Staple Program for Choke jobs. Kansas is the alltime Leader in College Basketball History for early NCAA early exits by a #1 Seed.

The loss can't be blamed on Self, it is not his fault his starting Guards couldn't make any shots and Xavier Henry was afraid to shoot the Basketball.

From 'The Jayhawker':

(highlighted passages are my additions)

A lot of people are going to take the high road over the next few days and congratulate Northern Iowa for playing a great game, but not me. Northern Iowa is a f****ing joke of a basketball team, and I say that not out of spite over the loss, but because it is a fact. Kansas …is littered with McDonald's All-Americans and future NBA players - there was no excuse for a performance so putrid. Here are the three scapegoats, in no particular order:

1) Sherron Collins. His play over the second half of the season has been the elephant in the room no one could talk about because he was anointed King of Kansas….. What compounds the problem is that because he is such the senior leader and face of the team Bill Self has no choice but to stick with him when he shoots 20% from the floor and 0% from beyond the arc. … To paraphrase Bobby Knight, the kid should have been benched before the wound hemorrhaged, end of story. I won't even mention how Sherron decided to back off a wide open Ali Farwhateveryourstupidnameis instead of getting in his face before the best shooter on UNI drained the three that put the game out of reach. No, I won't bring that up.

2) Rebounding, in particular long rebounds off of 3-point shots. This has been a thorn in the Jayhawks' side all season, especially against lesser opponents

3) Tyrel Reed. He played a great game against UNI...except for the play that sealed the fate of the Jayhawks: his drive and subsequent charging foul when KU had pulled within one point with under a minute to play. … As great of an outside shooter, ball-handler, and passer Tyrel is, he can't take it to the hoop without lunging into his defender. Why he decided it was a good idea to drive the lane in that spot I will never know…. I hope he retains his confidence for next season, I just also hope he never drives to the bucket again...ever.

It will be tough to watch the rest of this tournament. It will be tough to watch teams like Kentucky, Syracuse, and f'ing K-State roll through their opponents en route to a Final Four with the memory of the 'Hawks gagging it up on the first weekend…. I myself will not be routing for or against K-State because they are what they always were and always will be - completely and unequivocally irrelevant.

This is largely a FAIL comment, because real life ALWAYS has the opportunity to be more random than the sim due to actual humans determining the outcome(s).
3/21/2010 9:37 AM
real life ALWAYS has the opportunity to be less random, as well. when your team is up 25, in HD, its very possible you continue to kick the crap out of the other team. in real life, its much more deterministic... the winning team almost always lets up a bit. if the talent gap is less than huge, and even when it is, the lead usually dwindles. much less random than HD.

i see what you are saying in theory. and to some extent, its right, human emotions are nearly impossible to predict. but, there are also very well defined patterns that HD ignores. causing the outcome of the sim, in those cases, to be vastly more random than real life.
