the past 22 NCAA basketball champions have been ranked in the top 15 in the final AP poll (prior to the tourney).

If this is the argument then we should be making the tournament smaller right? Top 16 teams would be a fine tournament? No, I think his stat and my expansion on it shows that the porage is just right. I think the point is for many people, don't fix what isn't broken...nobody was clamoring for more teams.

Not really, cause who actually cares about only seeing the #1 team play. I bet if you looked at the #s for this tournament the Duke games were less watched than other match-ups along the way. People watch march madness for the great games not just to crown a champ. But the ultimate purpose is to crown a champion, whether they're all 1 point buzzer beaters or 40 point blowouts.

Curious about this statement, can you explain further? The reason I ask is that I watch alot of the big dogs play just to root against them.

The 96-team tourney isn't a done deal yet, but Joe Lumardi has these predictions for a 96-team field.

CONFERENCE BREAKDOWN

Big East (13)
ACC (12)
Big 12 (9)
Big Ten (8)
SEC (8)
Atlantic 10 (6)
Conference USA (4)
Mountain West (4)
Pac-10 (4)
Missouri Valley (3)
Colonial (2)
Horizon League (2)
Mid-American (2)
West Coast (2)

54 spots are taken by the six BCS conferences. 17 slots would go to 1-bid conferences

Nascar (27%): 12 out of 45(ish) possible to have more than 10 as well

So why are we so mad about just 28% of the teams making it in the NCAA if we went to 96 teams?

I can see if you try to make the case that it feels perfect now, or that it will just end up with only BCS schools getting the extra bids and the mid-majors who deserve it would not be included. Also, I could even see the point of having the top 8 seeds having byes as opposed to 9-24 having to play an extra game.

Right now at least 4-8 teams every year come from really small conferences and have no chance at really winning a game against anyone and those teams are not the ones that will be added to the tourney in the expansion.

The teams being added though have beat good teams and sometimes the best ones in the nation even they were just not consistent and fell too many times.

Simple argument... because there are about 200 D1 schools that should be labeled D1-AA or D2.
