the question has also been asked, even if you can sigh him for 9k, is it worth it? a couple people seem to think its never worth it. well, the dynamic of recruiting in all divisions is often that there are about 5 guys of equal talent who you would be ok with signing, but it doesn't matter much which one. but then there is one or two guys out front where the difference is big. in d2/d3 especially the difference can be huge. if its one of those types of players, its absolutely worth spending half your budget. you can fill all your spots with the pack type players very cheaply, so you may as well stick your neck out and reach for a guy who is a program changer.

I also agree with this 100%.
I also agree, but that caveat is a big one. Is the guy worth 3 scholarships...

Do like 3-4 more campus visits and he is yours. He is not the sims #1 recruit, so he shouldn't be hard to take. I took several recruits from div II (both sim and human) its really not that tough if you plan correctly.

Actually, this sounds about right to me. It's right in line with the efforts I've had to make in the past in scenarios like this.
Lol, I just looked back at the various responses I got from people, and you were the one who projected it taking the least. It's pretty clear that the results vary, there's luck involved, and if you get lucky the effort would be that low, but if you're unlucky it could take twice as much or even more.

It's very possible that I've been getting lucky too. I'm not saying that to be sarcastic either. It's just been my experience that the amount of effort that Furry suggested is close to what I've had to use to get the recruit.

I understand that spending 9k is the equivalent to 3 scholarships at D3, but you can easily sign guys for 1500 or less. I've signed guys for $700 at D2.

I sign most of my div II guys for under 400 bucks. Other then pull downs, its rare to spend over 1000 for me. Even a pull down doesn't cost me over 3,000. When I recruited in div III I had 3-5k over each year and sometimes more depending on the amount of open scholarships. Blowing 4-7k to steal a sim recruit isn't going to kill your budget unless you go out and get in more battles.

Furry, just curious, but to sign your recruits that cheap, are promises involved at all?
4/24/2010 7:31 PM
Yea even with an A+ prestige I am unable to get on D2 recruits list with just 1 HV, it always takes 2.

There is 2 ways to sign them that cheap. One is a promise, one is a mixture of calls/letters/coach calls.

Interesting, thanks.

OK, here's the battle I just won over Simmy in Naismith. I had A- prestige at d3, beat a d2 Sim team with C- prestige.

Date Description Cost
4/25/2010 phone calls - (3) $30
4/24/2010 phone call $10
4/24/2010 phone calls - (2) $20
4/23/2010 guaranteed minutes - (10) $10
4/23/2010 campus visit $1,026
4/23/2010 home visit $417
4/23/2010 declined guaranteed minutes - (10) $10
4/23/2010 declined guaranteed starting spot $10
4/23/2010 campus visit $1,026
4/23/2010 scouting trips - (3) $801
4/23/2010 declined guaranteed starting spot $10
4/23/2010 scouting trips - (2) $534
4/23/2010 scholarship offer $100
4/23/2010 scouting trips - (10) $2,670
4/23/2010 call current coach $10
4/23/2010 phone calls - (2) $20
Total $6704

It took me 15 evals to get listed, and I didn't pull ahead in the race until he accepted the Minutes/HV/CV combo, so there's really only about $60 in extra spend here. He was 210 miles away, so the costs were a little high, but at $165 per eval, which is the cheapest possibility, I'd have saved ~$1500, plus whatever for the HVs and CVs.

But Wronoj, a higher level team was on the player first. There's no way a D3 team can take a player from a D2 team (or a D2 from a D1 for that matter). Never, can't happen, don't waste your money. Frankly, I'm stunned that he would even talk to you and just amazed that you had the audacity to even try to recruit him.........(Please note the sarcasm displayed throughout the entire post)

wronoj, that 210 vs less than 200 mile distance factor is pretty significant. i mean you are talking the 1500 for evals, and about 500 for the other visits. that means you could have spent under 5k and signed him at better distance, which is quite in line with what i suggested would have to be spent. so im not sure that is on the high side at all.

also, there is very significant variation in the amount of effort that it takes to be considered, but low on the word on the street info. so for it to take one play X and another, in the same situation, 2X, would not be surprising in the least. and, the number of scholarships the sim has is definitely a factor. so i don't think daalter or furry is wrong in describing their circumstances, they are just both at the ends of the normal range.
4/26/2010 12:16 AM
that's what i was trying to say, G-- i meant the $6700 figure was high because of the distance, not that it was high end of the range.

other pertinent details i didn't mention:
Simmy had 3 openings, and he was listed as the "early favorite" willing to listen to other offers.

I think people have an unrealistic fear of recruiting against sims when you're pulling recruits down. I haven't done it much in D3 because of having less money, but I've taken recruits from D1 sims with my D2 team a bunch of times. Usually when sims go after players that schools at the lower division can get those recruits usually aren't a priority and they don't put much effort into them.

Personally in these situations I like to wait to see what the Word on the Street says. If it says he's very open to other offers or he's not sold then you'll be able to take him. It may take a lot of effort, like 15 HVs but you shouldn't have much of a problem taking him away.
+1  I have won many battles with SIMS that are in a higher division, but you definitely want to look at the "Word on the Street" first. If it says "Very Tight" it is not worth trying in my opinion. I have never won one like that.

I have taken players from D2 SIMs at D3 before several times, even when they started out as a backup option. But again, look at Word on the Street and be sure that they are still "open to other offers".

This is almost 2 years old.... Why did it suddenly bring responses??
