I agree with Asher's statement. My main way of combating it is calling these guys out when they start bragging about their master of the universe status. Half these threads that say "join x world, the best around" I've found are full of cheaters. In one world a guy stated in the cc his D1 team was looking at one guy his lower level team recruited. In another world, at D3 I had a guy in Connecticut battle me over 10k in CA. In another world, a guy openly posted that he would share his FSS with everyone in the conference after he signed all his guys.

I'm almost feeling like Nick Nolte in Blue Chips where everyone around is cheating but me. It's small consolation to lose out on guys I know other coaches cheated to get, but I still am successful enough to still enjoy this game. Gimme another few seasons of failing to win that first NC and maybe not.
a guy in CT battled you in CA? people scout at distance all the time. did the dude have a team in CA or something? if not, not sure what the big deal is.

not really sure the first guy did anything wrong in your story either. i guess its just not really the smoking gun i was expecting after ur first couple (and last few) sentences!

I wish I could play myself and pitch my D3 teams in one world against my D1 team in another. I have a strong suspicion my D3 team would win out.
this is interesting that there is such a strong sentiment against playing against your own teams in the non-con out here.  as i said before, i did it and thought it was super fun.  your very own story of david vs. goliath (at least in my case when it was Tex AM CC vs. Tenn).

how does such a scenario actually hurt anything in reality?  what is the big deal?  there is no collusion or other recruiting shennanigans going on.  unless you have proof the person is throwing a game on purpose, which would be easy to tell just by looking at the PBP, there should be no issue, right?
I'm talking about having my D3 team in Naismith up against my D1 in Phelan. That's not possible currently.

Honestly, I could care less if a coach is playing against himself with multiple usernames.  I can see how that would be fun if you were pitting your DIII or DII school versus your DI in exhibition.

Where I do think it is an issue is where multiple IDs are used to share information and gain a recruiting advantage.  However, I can understand that WIS has little incentive to stop this practice since they are getting extra $ each season from people with multiple IDs in the same world.

How would it be easy to tell, really?  You could sabotage yourself in all sorts of subtle ways;  Changing your distribution away from your best player and onto one not so good - game to game variation COULD explain that guy taking extra shots and the other guy getting a few less.  Reduce a guys three shooting?  Why, sometimes my guy that shoots alot of threes a game doesn't in one game.  Its certainly possible within normal variation. . etcetera.

Its all a matter of perspective I guess. In the CT case, my issue is that CA is a big state to scout. I understand that people do scout it. But to then battle me at D3 with 10k all the way across the country makes me wonder how they had enough cash. Back in the day when I was new or lazy, I never did the math to know how much money a guy had. Now I'm usually pretty good about it. My feeling on that is that the guy had a higher level team that he used to pay for all the scouting, so he had full money to battle with on his D3 team.

As you say, I could be off base, but most of us know what the math is these days, and for me, it didn't add up. Maybe I was way off on carry over, but I looked and saw where this guy was recruiting from, and it wasn't all in his back yard with my guy being the outlier.

As for the second, the point again is the same as the first. The guy didn't need to spend any scouting money on his D3 team because he openly admitted that he had his D1 team looking at the guy for him.  We could argue about this being a smoking gun, but to me, I'd love to have the extra money at D3, especially in these "competitive" worlds where people have no issue battling for players.
