How do offensive 1B age in the NL? Trade now? Topic

90 range 70 glove is a solid 2B.  70 glove is only five points off of the rec, and the range should generate a bunch of + plays

That right center field is a beast , I would focus on outfield defense all around, particularly if you are courting flyball pitchers.

That said, there are many opinions on how to win in pitcher's parks. I play in several and so far as my offense is concerned, I try to focus on on-base skills more than anything, which for me means splits, eye and contact, in that order. Power is nice, but the 30/80 guys that are being touted in this thread will hit about 180/230/380 in a park that depresses homers to an extreme, it is rare to find a guy who can turn San Francisco or San Diego into a cozy hitter's paradise (though they do exist, and having one would be awesome). Speed helps a guy leg out infield hits, but for that to be an asset the guy needs to put lots of balls on the ground, so pay attention to GB/FB ratio when considering a speedy guy. Some will say focus less on pitching because your park helps you out, but I think the opposite: you will find yourself in close/low scoring games often, and high quality pitching, including a strong bull pen, will help carry you when your offense is struggling to scratch out runs. Focus on defense as well, it is still under valued by many in HBD and a strong defense can improve your pitching in measurable ways. (I should note that most of this advice would be the same for anyone playing in neutral or hitter's parks, but in my experience these are particularly important in pitchers parks because your offense will almost never carry you.). Other than that, play around and find what works for you. I have seen teams successfully build offensive juggernauts in a pitcher's park. I have seen others focus on winning with speed, pitching and defense, etc.

You lose a lot of HRs at home.
How would you build a team with that kind of home stadium?  So far, I've been unafraid to get flyball type pitchers and have put a guy who has a 90 Range, 70 Glove in LF instead of having him boot a bunch of groundballs at 2B. So I've been generally looking for speedy guys who can hit for average.
Contrary to what Ted said (no offense Ted), only the singles factor effects batting average. Lost HRs turn into lesser hits, not outs. So your players should have a slightly higher BAvg at home than on the road. Obviously you don't want to invest in power if you can find an equally valuable guy without it.
I am not certain this is correct, where did you get the information? It could very well be true, but it makes little sense. Anyway, most of my opinions on playing in pitcher's parks comes from San Diego, which suppresses all hits equally, so it is very possible that I am confused as to the way park effects help determine a batting line. I still think the "just build a good team" advice is not very helpful, as some players who might be quite useful in hitter's parks just don't produce in pitcher's parks. Yes, you play half your games away, but those park factors vary and you will not have such reliable data on how your guys perform on the road versus at home because of that; also, if your guys can hit in a pitcher's park, they can probably hit in a hitter's park, so tailoring your offense a bit should not hurt you much.

The help manual does say that the park factor for 1B affects hits...so many years of not knowing the truth. That same section also says that the park actors listed in the ballparks sere port section are important for players, but are only historical and are not explicitly used in the simulation engine, so I am completely confused and have submitted a ticket for clarification.

Confirmed.  Thanks for the info.

What do you guys think of this offer for Green?

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Jimmie Gibson

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Bum Schultz

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Esteban Latos

I feel like Gibson is underperforming right now in his first 300 ML ABs. Will he start getting on base more? His defense is good, but not enough to make up for a sub .300 OBP I feel. Bum Schultz should be a good bat vRHP, right? Latos is basically a throw-in.

No way.  300 ABs is a very small sample size.  You are in San Fran remember, so his power is gonna suffer.

Gibson is so-so, Schultz is ... eh.., probably just being tossed in thinking you'd get hooked on the high VsR.  The link to Latos doesnt work, but if he's a throw in... then one AAA 2b doesnt make up for Green.

The SS Robert Forest is a beast, But I'm a bit confused about his 35 makeup rating. Does makeup affect the player's development ? I read it somewhere in this forum that a player with a makeup of less than 50 would never reach his potential (or close to the projected ratings). Is that true ?

You've had at least two people advise you to make a 1:1 deal. Take that advice.
That's been my gut feeling, too. I've had several offers in this ballpark for a while now. Just wanted to calibrate my senses to make sure I wasn't leaving a godfather offer on the table.

I've got another arb season with Green, and at the point, I"m only a few games out of a weak division. I'll probably hang on to him and hope I get a few breaks to make the postseason. If I can sign him to a cheap extension, maybe I'll keep him or explore trading him again in the off-season.

Green is wicked good.  Never give up a guy like that unless you are getting quality back.  Quantity is never ever better then Quality.  Gibson can be replaced by a 2nd rounder.  Green can only be replaced by a high 1st rd pick.  Think of it that way.  The other 2 are worthless.
