According to CS, he was set to 0 for that game. I have no recollection of changing it, and he was set for -2 the game before (8 shots, no threes) and the game after (3 shots, no threes), but apparently he was different for that game in between.

As for -2 generally, it has ( in my experience) effectively prevented guards from shooting 3s (absent end of half/desperation time), which is why I was so surprised to see 6 go up when (I thought) the guy was at -2.

Every player can have different distros and 3pt settings for each of different defenses. My guess is that maybe you forgot to (or just somehow didn't) adjust his 3pt setting against the 2-3 zone defense because the other games were against opponents running man and press. I've made this mistake before, so you might just want to double-check this isn't the case if you haven't done so already.

That's a very distinct possibility.  I've done it before in the past and had it backfire on me, so now when I adjust my distro at all, I always hit the "Save for all Defenses" option.  Yes, it's extra work to change it every time I face a different defense, but it generally only takes me a couple of seconds to adjust.

It is possible I clicked the wrong button, but - like emy - I did make that mistake seasons ago and so I also now "Save for all Defenses" every time. But, like I said, maybe this was the one time in a hundred that I just clicked it wrong.

I did a test last night that settles it for me.  Played against a M2M -5 defense and set my 2 best Per shooters at -2, and neither took a 3-pt shot.

Tucker has averaged about 12 attempts from 3 per game at mostly +1 setting, with 98 Per and 2 LP, and took ZERO 3's on -2 setting against a -5 defense.  And it's not like he didn't shoot, he took 17 2-pt shots.  If there was ever a case where it would be overriding my setting, that should be it.  I stand by the belief that -2 means NO 3's.

Just to make sure, you don't have the player distro set to all 0's right?  The 3 pt settings get ignored if you do that.  Otherwise, yeah that shouldn't be happening.
i couldn't disagree with that more.  My coe team had everyone set to 0s for every single game of the season and look at the result.  pretty self explanatory
Of course, the all zeroes could be why a team that good has six losses too. (wink, wink)

Never really understood the all zeroes method.  We don't have much control over our teams as it is, why take away one of the most important (if not THE most important) tools we have?  I guess I can see it for a game or two to try to determine who the engine likes as scorers, but a whole season?  I don't know, to each his own I guess.  I just like to have as much control over my players as possible.
I can't speak for everyone, but I only do it because, to me, it makes sense to not force feed shots when running a FB.
