How is the supplemental pick determined?
I believe it's on W/L record from the previous season of the teams receiving the picks.  The "worst" team gets the first pick in the supplemental round, and so on.  If some teams get more than one supplemental pick, then everybody who gets at least one pick get ordered from worst to best, then teams with a second pick get ordered next, etc.

Being an arrogant *** helps weed out the weak early.

Those who ask for opinions and then get all pissy because people say "Oh, that's horrible" fall in the "weak" category.

Well, now that I know your arrogance is a public service, that changes everything.  Thanks for enlightening me.

You're welcome.

If you're around in six-eight months, shoot me a sitemail to tell me "I told you so".   Maybe I'll be nice then.  I might even post rainbows and unicorns walking down a road lined with candy for you.

I think you missed the part of my post where I said it doesn't bother me.

I just wanted to point out that you probably turn a lot of people away from the game and some people probably don't ask for help on the forums because of guys like you.  I would think that someone as active on the forums as you are would want to make it more inviting and easier for those people to ask for help.  Maybe there would be less newbie mistakes made then and you wouldn't have to complain as much.

And I said anyone who is turned off from the game because they don't like me should probably turn off the computer and never leave home.   The world is a rough place.  If words on the internet bother you that much, you're in for a tough life.

I'm quite sure I've helped more n00bs than I've turned away.   I'm just not particularly fond of people who ask for help(or opinions) and then immediately say "I don't want to ask for help.  I want to learn from my mistakes.  It's my team and I should be able to do what I want!!!!"   I've already explained why that annoys me.

Looking back at this thread, it seems like Mike was giving you good advice.  Maybe it was a little more blunt than you would have wanted, but it was dead-on.  Not sure why you're having a problem with his responses.

I didn't post a rainbow and unicorn until this page.   I KNEW I should have put a smiley face with my first response.

I didn't ask for help.  I asked what the opinion on the trade was.  I listened to everyone's reasoning and agreed with their conclusion.  It was a bad trade and now I will use that knowledge to make better trades in the future.

When I said I want to learn from my mistakes was when someone said that newbies shouldn't make trades in their first couple of years.  My question never was "Should I make trades my first couple of years?"  If it was, then I would have taken the advice that I asked for.

Because you don't play in a vacuum, good worlds aren't going to let your make your own decisions, good or bad, that affect the balance of power.   I don't care enough to check Sanderbears Ron Cey but, as has been pointed out, you were robbed.
This, tec.

Hurt his feelings.

I'm not disagreeing with Mike that the trade was bad.  Like I said, I agree now that it was a bad trade after reading everyone's reasoning.

I don't care how blunt anyone is when talking to me.  I just find it funny that someone that is really active on the forums and wants to help people would be as arrogant about things as he is.  If I was trying to help people out I would take a different avenue, but that's just me.

Mike is also misrepresenting my argument.  I didn't ask for advice and then get mad about the advice I was given.  I asked for an opinion on my trade and then actually agreed with the opinions everyone gave.  What I disagreed with was the guy that offered the unsolicited advice that I shouldn't make trades my first two years.  To me, that wouldn't be any fun and I disagreed with him and gave my reasons.

I'm confused as to how that hurt my feelings when I agree that I got robbed and made a bad trade.

I do disagree with not wanting players to make their own decisions.  A GM, good or bad, can make any trade they want if it's not collusion.  If the league vetoes it, then it doesn't go through.  Those are the rules, right?

greeny was the one who offered  the "unsolicited advice".

He is one of the better owners. He is also very helpful to those who ask for help.
He is not alone in the opinion that new owners shouldn't make a trade at all in their first couple of seasons. It is a view held by many.

It isn't arrogant or whatever, it is simply the experience of having played the game for several years, and having seen first hand the damage done to so many worlds by so many newbie owners, who come in, make some poor moves, learn from their mistakes, and eventually realize what a mess their team is in and then bail..

I will concede your point about "private worlds". If you CHOSE to sign up for THAT public world, then have at it.
You most certainly aren't the first to make a lopsided trade in that world, and I can assure you there have been far worse.
That is why the competition in private worlds is so much better.
