Tell me how this class is? (D1) Topic

I know a lot of the comments about the recruits were negative but the team has gotten better, the prestige has gone up and many of these players have been big contributors. So I don't think people should shy away from recruits they feel are better then those that they had on their team when they took over the new team. My goal was to get better players then what I had, this happened and I won games, so although my recruiting class wasn't well viewed, I am very proud of the success I have had with them.

I have learned though to go after better players with high/high in categories, but it is a hard transition to D1 recruiting.

Ya, I think most people are way overcritical of taking over a new/poor program.  I liked a few of those guys in the beginning and have been told my draft class was terrible even though they ended up with multiple NT appearances.  The deck is definetely stacked against new D1 players but I agree with you that small steps is the way to go rather than going "all in" on a battle and lose out completely.  That can set you back for 4 years so I like what you did and think good things are in your future.  You did well for your situation and hope you don't put much stock into "Well, I did better," statements.  Have a good week

I'm hoping to learn from the comments on this post.. thanks for the insight.  I just recently took a D- job and will probably go through alot of growing (recruiting) pains but i'm hoping this post will be help me out over the next couple of seasons as i try to build a decent little program here @ robert morris.  My biggest problem is waiting during recruiting period.  I like to jump right in and go after it lol

Good luck pureh21 - I was trying to get incrementally better and that worked. I normally have a list of potential recruits and wait to see who the big boys go after before I start targeting my recruits.

I think your success has more to do with your schedule than your original recruiting class.

Those guys put up good #'s because you are basically playing a DII schedule.

With that being said, I think your FR. and SOPH. class are pretty solid from a first look.

The only way you improve your prestige is by playing a bad schedule. I should have scheduled a little better but if I don't make the NT my prestige doesn't go up anyway, so I can't schedule 10 hard to win OOC games.

I  think you did the right thing, espicially if you weren't certain you would go 16-0 in the conference.    What I am saying is those guys did well because you played crappy teams.   Those high 3 pt %'s aren't there against real DI teams.
